After celebrating National Ice Cream For Breakfast Day in the best possible way, Shae, Truffles and I made our way to Table Rock State Park to meet up with a couple of friends to go hiking.
This was our last few hours in South Carolina – the first state on our 50 state road trip – as we then moved on to Blairsville in North Georgia.
As we were short on time, we didn’t have the opportunity to hike to the top of Table Rock. Based on the description our friends gave of the trail, I’m not even sure we’re currently in good enough shape to make it.
Instead, we took the Carrick Creek trail. We visited at the beginning of February, so most of the trees were without their leaves but the hike was still incredibly beautiful. There are cascading waterfalls and streams all along the route, so we frequently stopped to take photos of the glorious surroundings.
Icicles dangled from rock faces due to the cold weather, while branches close to the streams and waterfalls were adorned in ice.
The cold weather also resulted in frost flowers protruding from the soil. We’d never seen or heard of them before, but our friends pointed them out and it was fascinating to see their unique designs.
If you ever get a chance to visit Table Rock State Park in South Carolina, you should do it. The Carrick Creek trail was stunning at the tail end of winter, so I can only imagine how amazing it looks in the fall when the leaves are changing color.
If that hasn’t convinced you to visit, here are some other photos Shae took on the hike. You can see more of her work at Shae Pepper Photography.
