Macarons are so delicious.
Macaroons are not – I don’t care for coconut.
Macron is the French President – at the time of writing.
None of them are pronounced the same.
MAC-A-RONS are delicious sandwich cookies.
MAC-A-ROONS are gross coconut cookies.
MAC-RON is a person and should not be tasted.
One of my favorite places in Hampton Roads is Hummingbird Macarons & Desserts where they make some of the best macarons and desserts I’ve ever tasted. One of my favorites is their giant macaron and ice cream sandwich. I follow them on Facebook just to torment myself (apparently) since I only get their deliciousness when I come home for a visit and can squeeze them into my budget. Thankfully, Stephen was gone for two weeks so I was able to treat my self to them during my hometown takeover.
They’re still just as delicious but there’s a big change.
They’ve moved! They went from a small storefront in Ghent to a large, Asian-style tea room called The Pagoda which is in the center of a Japanese Garden. They’re still in Norfolk, but the new location lends an even more elegant air to their offerings.
You walk through the enchanting entrance to be transported into a quiet garden setting. The tea room is very large and looms above you. It has two stories – the downstairs has the desserts, beverages and seating while the upstairs appears to be an event venue and possibly additional seating. There’s also outside seating for beautiful days, like the one I stopped in on.
Now for the good stuff…
There’s free 2-hour parking available and a lovely walk by the water where you can even see the Battleship Wisconsin. I highly recommend taking some respite at the new Hummingbird Macarons & Desserts location if you find yourself in Norfolk, VA.
