The top status level in Hyatt’s loyalty scheme is called Globalist. Here’s our guide to the benefits you’ll receive with World of Hyatt Globalist status, along with the different ways you can earn it.
Important Note: You’ll only receive these benefits when you book a hotel stay directly with Hyatt, either on their website, mobile app or by phone. If you book a stay using an OTA (Online Travel Agency) like Expedia, you’re not eligible to receive any of these benefits.
World Of Hyatt Globalist Status Benefits
1) 30% Bonus Points
You earn 5 base points per dollar spent at Hyatt brands, so this gives you 1.5 bonus points per dollar.
2) Room Upgrade
With Globalist status, you’re eligible for an upgraded room during your stay, including standard suites when available.
3) Club Lounge Access
Club Lounge access means that you’ll receive free continental breakfast and evening hors d’oeuvres during your stay. If the hotel doesn’t have a Club Lounge, you’ll instead receive complimentary full breakfast for up to two adults and two children every day during your stay.
4) Complimentary Parking On Free Night Awards
When using your points or free night certificates, you’ll receive complimentary parking when it can be charged to your room. Be sure to check your bill to ensure your parking cost is deducted.
5) 4pm Late Checkout
Subject to availability, you can request a checkout time as late as 4pm.
6) Waived Resort Fees
All other World of Hyatt status levels receive waived resort fees, but only on free night awards. With Globalist status, you’ll have resort fees waived on both free night awards and paid nights.
7) Priority Access To Available Rooms When Checking In Early
This is pretty self-explanatory – when checking in early, you’ll be prioritized for any rooms that are available.
8) 48 Hour Room Availability
If the hotel you want to stay at is fully booked, this benefit means that you’ll be assured a room provided you make a reservation at least 48 hours before.
9) Two United Airlines Club One-Time Passes
These passes will give you access to any of United’s airport lounges, so long as you have a same-day boarding pass.
10) Guest Of Honor Benefits
When you transfer an eligible award (including free night and Points + Cash awards), they can be booked in the name of a different guest. You can then designate them as a Guest of Honor so that they’ll receive your Globalist benefits.
These benefits are in addition to the benefits you receive with Explorist status:
- 10% discount
- Premium internet
- Waived resort fees
- Pearl status with M life Rewards (superseded by Gold Status)
- Category 1-4 free night award after staying at five brands
- 20% bonus points (superseded by 30% bonus points)
- Free water
- Best room upgrade (superseded by room upgrades including suites)
- Expedited check-in
- Late check-out (superseded by 4pm late checkout)
- Exclusive reservation line
Additional Globalist Benefits
If you earn World of Hyatt Globalist status through staying enough qualifying nights or earning enough base points (see below), you’ll receive several other benefits:
11) Free Night Award At A Category 1-7 Hotel
This means you’ll get a free night certificate to be used at any Hyatt brand hotel worldwide. The award is only valid for 120 days after it’s issued, so you have to use it pretty quickly.
12) 4 Suite Upgrade Awards
These can be used on both paid and award stays and are valid for a year after issue.
13) My Hyatt Concierge Access
The My Hyatt Concierge agent can be used to make reservations and provide personalized service.
14) Maintain Globalist Status With 55 Qualifying Nights
As explained below, you normally require 60 qualifying nights to earn Globalist status. Once you’ve earned the status though, you can maintain it through staying 55 qualifying nights per year.
Edit: Starting in 2020, existing Globalist members will need 60 qualifying nights per year too.
15) 10,000 Bonus Points Or Suite Upgrade Award
You’ll receive the choice of one of these benefits when staying 70, 80, 90 and 100 qualifying nights per year. You receive the benefit after each of these milestones, so if you stay 100+ qualifying nights, you’ll receive the benefit four times.
16) Lifetime Globalist Status
This is achieved once you’ve earned 1 million base points over the course of your program membership – not just in a calendar year. Seeing as you earn 5 base points per dollar spent, you’d have to spend $200,000 to become a Lifetime Globalist.
How To Get World Of Hyatt Globalist Status
There are three ways to earn Globalist status with Hyatt:
1) Stay 60 Qualifying Nights In A Calendar Year
Free night awards don’t count, so these have to either be paid stays or Points + Cash stays. (Edit – Since the start of 2018, award stays booked using points are now classed as elite qualifying nights.)
These 60 nights can be any mix of paid nights, award stays or nights booked using Points + Cash.
2) 100,000 Base Points In A Calendar Year
You earn 5 base points per dollar, so you’d need to spend $20,000 with Hyatt in a calendar year to earn status this way.
3) Hold 20 Qualifying Meetings Or Events In A Calendar Year
A qualifying meeting is when you plan a meeting or conference where at least ten guest rooms are paid for. As a meeting planner, you don’t have to pay for the rooms yourself; it can include rooms where meeting / conference attendees pay for their rooms themselves, so long as they’re linked to your event.
Another option is holding a meeting or conference where you rent a meeting room or conference space and/or purchase catered or banqueted food or beverages from the Hyatt brand hotel.
4) Credit Card Spend
The new World of Hyatt credit card offers five qualifying nights each year, along with two qualifying nights for every $5,000 of spend you put on the card. That means it’s possible to spend your way to Globalist status without ever stepping foot in a Hyatt property, but in most cases you’d be better off putting that kind of spend on other cards.
Having said that, credit card spend on my World of Hyatt credit card helped me earn Globalist status in 2018, although the majority of my qualifying nights came from actual hotel stays.
Summary
As you can see from the extensive list above, World of Hyatt Globalist status comes with many excellent benefits. Club Lounge access, room upgrades, suite upgrades, bonus points and so much more are waiting for you if you can earn it.
That’s the big problem with Globalist status though – it’s very hard to earn. For example, both Hyatt Globalist and Hilton Diamond require 60 qualifying nights. However, with Hilton you can also earn qualifying nights on free night award stays, whereas Hyatt don’t offer that option.
Hilton also have more than 4,500 properties worldwide, whereas Hyatt have fewer than 900. That means Hyatt have less than 20% of Hilton’s footprint, so it can be much harder to find Hyatt brand hotels to stay at in the first place.
Hyatt’s are also frequently more expensive than other chains, so earning this top-tier status comes with an additional financial cost.
If you can earn Globalist status though, you’ll be assured amazing experiences whenever you stay at a Hyatt hotel.
