We recently spent six days in Milwaukee during our 5 year, 50 state road trip. The city and surrounding area were full of great places to walk your dog – here are the five that we loved the best.
1) Warnimont Dog Park
This was the one that Truffles enjoyed the most. Warnimont Dog Park has separated areas for both small and large dogs, but that’s not the only reason we loved it.

The dog park is set in five acres of land, with trails running throughout the large dog area.

The small dog area has a separate gate leading to the trails, but it does mean that your dog will be in with the larger dogs. There weren’t that many larger dogs when we visited and they were all well-behaved, so we decided to take Truffles in. She loved being allowed to roam freely and did a great job not walking too far from us. She didn’t see any squirrels though, so that helped 😉

Address: Warnimont Dog Park, Oak Leaf Trail, Cudahy, WI 53110
2) Lion’s Den Gorge Nature Preserve
About 20-25 miles north of Milwaukee is Lion’s Den Gorge Nature Preserve. Set over 73 acres, it provides great viewds of Lake Michigan from up on the bluffs.

There seemed to be about half a dozen different trails that linked up with each other at various points.

Most of the trails were nice and wide, with some narrower trails along the bluffs. All of them were pet-friendly and we saw several dogs along the way.
Be aware that the weather’s much cooler up there; it was 72° in Milwaukee when we left, but only about 55° up at Lion’s Den Gorge Nature Preserve.

3) Historic Third Ward
We’d received a recommendation to check out the Historic Third Ward while in Milwaukee (thanks Cyndy!). So we headed downtown one sunny lunchtime to check it out.

It was a great place to walk around, with plenty of cool older buildings to look at near and along the Milwaukee River.

Seeing as we visited at lunchtime, we stopped by Milwaukee Public Market to grab something to eat. It’s not pet-friendly inside, but there’s plenty of seating outside where you can eat with your dog.
Milwaukee Public Market has loads of vendors inside selling everything from tacos to gyros to sandwiches to soup to cupcakes and more.

4) Milwaukee Riverwalk
While walking around the Historic Third Ward, we found ourselves down by the Milwaukee River.

Lasting more than 20 blocks, there’s a Riverwalk which is a great place to walk your dog, stop for a drink and enjoy beautiful views of the city.

Address: Milwaukee Riverwalk, N Riverwalk Way, Milwaukee, WI 53202
5) Veterans Park
While doing some errands in Milwaukee, I drove past Veterans Park. It looked like a beautiful place to visit, so Shae, Truffles and I returned a couple of days later.
The park’s found alongside Lake Michigan and has a store selling kites, ice cream and other snacks and is home to several kite festivals. You can also rent bikes to cycle around the various paved trails throughout the park.

Veterans Park also has a long lagoon where you can rent kayaks, paddle boards and pedal boats. These are pet-friendly, so Truffles joined me and Shae on a pedal boat.
Address: Veterans Park, 1010 N. Lincoln Memorial Drive, Milwaukee, WI 53202
Question
So those were our five favorite places to bring our dog in Milwaukee, but how about you? What other awesome places are there to walk your dog in and around Milwaukee?
Love having the addition of the video clip – more clips in your blog would be fab!
Thanks! We’ll try to include some more 🙂
