Stephen has many spreadsheets. We always tell people: Shae’s in charge of PR and Stephen’s in charge of spreadsheets.
One spreadsheet he’s been maintaining for almost 2 years is our Road Trip Things to Do list. It’s a comprehensive spreadsheet (as all of his are) that has a tab for each of the 50 states and DC. We put down accommodation ideas, things to do, where we found the thing to do, etc. We’re constantly updating it (daily!) as new ideas come through from recommendations or our Facebook feeds.
I’ve mentioned the virtual running club that I’m a part of a few times. The Hogwarts Running Club (HRC) is an awesome place for Harry Potter geeks like me to congregate and talk about all things running and Harry Potter. It’s also been a great place to meet new people in person on our road trip. So far we’ve met Kristie, Stephanie, Kristy, Bryn, Debbie, Nicole, and Jamey. We have plans to meet a few more in Texas and Colorado later this year.
In March 2017, I added a Slytherin’s family bakery to the list during a joint house challenge for the HRC. I didn’t add her name (foolishly) but I recorded that she was a Slytherin and the name of the bakery – Kruta Bakery – in Collinsville, Illinois.
All of a sudden it was September 2018 and we were planning to go to the bakery in a day or two and I had no clue who I was supposed to try and meet. I reached out in the HRC Facebook group and was able to find her. Whew!
We arrived around 11am while Catherine was still working and couldn’t believe all the amazing breads, pastries and tarts that awaited us. We couldn’t limit ourselves. I mean, I’m a proud Hufflepuff (our love of cookies is well known) and while Stephen is a Ravenmuggle, he too loves a good carb.

We picked out all the things we were ready to buy and support the Kruta family. Catherine sweetly let us know that all our snacks were on her! We were floored! We were fully prepared to do our part to support a bakery that has been around since 1919. So thank you Catherine and the Kruta family for our delicious and delectable treats.
If you find yourself anywhere near Collinsville, IL (only about 30 minutes from St. Louis, MO) we’d recommend making a trip to grab some baked goods from Kruta Bakery.
