Move over Hurts Donut, I think I have a new favorite donut place.
Don’t get me wrong – I still think Hurts Donuts are amazing, but Round Rock Donuts has stolen a place in my heart (and my stomach).
We’d seen a video on Facebook about Round Rock Donuts about a year ago, so added it to our list of places to visit in Texas while on our 50 state road trip. We didn’t have far to drive as we actually stayed at the Hyatt Place in Round Rock using points seeing as hotels in Austin were so expensive.

So many of their donuts sounded good, so it was hard choosing which ones to get. I ended up going for a strawberry filled donut and eclair filled with Bavarian cream (for fellow Brits, think cold custard).
They also had several types of sausage kolaches on the menu, so I got a large kolache as well. I’d never tried one before, but it was extremely tasty and much better than I was expecting. I’d assumed it would just be a hot dog in a baked bun, but it was a proper sausage and was surprisingly delicious.
But back to their donuts. Shae decided to go all in with Round Rock Donuts’ special – a chocolate iced Texas Sized Donut. It’s the size of 12 donuts and weighs a couple of pounds. In fact, it’s so big that it comes in its own box.

That photo doesn’t quite convey how large it is, so here’s my strawberry filled donut in the center for comparison.

And if that still doesn’t do the trick, here’s Shae about to take her first delicious bite of it. Their Texas Sized Donut was bigger than her head. If the Incredible Hulk was an angel, this would be his halo.

To be honest, I thought that her donut might be all size and no taste.
Boy, was I wrong.
I got to have several bites of her donut and loved its softness and chocolatey flavor. I also loved both my strawberry filled donut and chocolate iced eclair. Both were extremely generously filled, so much so that every single bite included strawberry filling or Bavarian cream. They were both also very soft and not too doughy.
Round Rock Donuts has several other types of donuts and baked goods, including some enormous cinnamon rolls which we sadly didn’t get around to trying.

If you ever visit Austin, be sure to make the ~20 minute drive north to Round Rock as you also need Round Rock Donuts in your life – and your mouth.
