Austin, Texas seems to have a ton of great restaurants where you can find all kinds of tasty food to eat.
We spent 11 days there while on our 5 year, 50 state road trip and ate out quite a lot. From donuts to tacos to burgers to sausages and more, here are 7 tasty places to eat that we enjoyed during our time there.
1) Donuts – Round Rock Donuts
I feel like the first mention on this list should go to Round Rock Donuts. They’re now my favorite donuts ever as their strawberry filled donut was incredible, as were their Bavarian cream eclair and sausage kolache too. Not to mention that they also have delicious Texas sized donuts:

Address: Round Rock Donuts, 106 W Liberty Ave, Round Rock, TX 78664
2) Tacos – Torchy’s Tacos
A few people recommended Torchy’s Tacos to us, a chain with restaurants in Texas, Colorado and Oklahoma. It’s easy to see why it came so highly recommended – their tacos are incredible. Shae ordered the beef fajita, while I went for the Tipsy Chick taco.
Both came completely loaded, with so much flavor packed in to them. The tacos were ~$4.50 each which is more than I’d normally pay for a taco, but they were worth it.

Address: There are many Torchy’s Tacos restaurants in Austin, but we ate at the one located at 2801 Guadalupe St, Austin, TX 78705.
3) Sausages – Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden
Another recommendation we’d received was Banger’s Sausage House, a restaurant on Rainey St that has a menu containing 20 different sausages and a bar with 106 beers on tap.
With a ton of outdoor seating, it’s also pet-friendly which meant we brought along our dog Truffles.

You can even order a special sausage for dogs, so Truffles insisted that we get her one.

Their sausage menu contains both regular options such as bratwurst and andouille, as well as more exotic options like duck & bacon and rabbit & mushroom.
I ordered the Drunk Chicken sausage which contains beer, serrano peppers, red pepper flakes, cilantro and more beer. It’s served on a soft roll with garlic aioli and caramelized onions and it’s simply amazing. Extremely meaty and much more spicy than I was expecting, I’d definitely get this again.

Shae went for the bangers and mash; it didn’t pack as much flavor punch, but it was still very tasty nonetheless.

Address: Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden, 79 & 81 Rainey St, Austin, TX 78701
4) Burgers – P. Terry’s Burger Stand
This is a small burger chain in Texas with about a dozen restaurants. It’s a great place to visit for lunch or dinner if you’re after low priced – but good tasting – burgers, fries and shakes. Check out our full review here.

Address: P. Terry’s Burger Stand has several locations – we ate at their Capital Plaza restaurant at 5701 N Interstate Hwy 35, Austin, TX 78745.
5) Chinese – New Fortune Chinese Seafood Restaurant
The niece of Shae’s old boss lives in Austin, so we met up with her and her boyfriend for Chinese food one lunchtime.
They took us to New Fortune Chinese Seafood Restaurant which seemed to be an authentic Chinese restaurant, rather than just a run-of-the-mill takeout place.
Employees wheel carts around the restaurant that hold small plates of all kinds of different dishes. This was perfect as it was a little like eating tapas style, so meant we could try a little bit of everything.

There’s also a small buffet-style section where they serve you, so we tried a few different items from there including fried baby egg fish.

Address: New Fortune Chinese Seafood Restaurant, 10901 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78753
6) More Tacos – El Arroyo
We met up with another friend of Shae’s at a Mexican restaurant called El Arroyo one Saturday morning. With great tacos (I got the Baja fish tacos) and $2.50 mimosas, it was the perfect place for brunch.
I forgot to take photos of our meals, but here’s a photo of their restaurant (apparently they’re known for their sign).

Address: El Arroyo, 1624 W 5th St, Austin, TX 78703
7) Venezuelan – Four Brothers Venezuelan Food
While at the Formula 1 US Grand Prix in Austin, we grabbed lunch from a Four Brothers food truck. These were Venezuelan food bowls and were very satisfying.

Address: Four Brothers has a few locations around Austin, although we got our lunch from their food truck which normally seems to be located at 2201 S 1st St, Austin, TX 78704
