Hyatt Hotels Corporation is one of the smaller ‘big chains’ with ~1,000 hotels that are currently open or due to open soon in more than 85 countries.
Despite the relatively small number of properties, they have 18 different brands in their portfolio focused on different customers.
We’ve therefore produced a guide to the Hyatt brands below, along with what you can expect from each one. Shae and I haven’t had an opportunity to stay at each of these brands yet, so some of the details below are based on research rather than experience.
List Of Hyatt Hotel Brands
Park Hyatt
Park Hyatt is Hyatt’s luxury brand with fewer than 50 properties worldwide. The Park Hyatt Sydney is regarded by many as being the best hotel in all of Sydney, Australia.

Shae and I stayed at the Park Hyatt New York in 2019 and had a great stay even though we were only there for one night. Their shower is to die for – seriously, it was the best shower I’ve ever had.

Grand Hyatt
Grand Hyatt is one of their premium brands and, as the name suggests, tends to be very grand. They have full-service spas, fine dining and a luxury feel. There are ~50 Grand Hyatt hotels worldwide and are primarily based in large cities and resort areas.

Hyatt Regency
There are ~200 Hyatt Regency hotels worldwide, with about half of them being based in the US. This premium brand is focused on both business and leisure travelers and so competes against other brands like Hilton, Sheraton and Marriott.
Every Hyatt Regency has multiple restaurant options and can be found in both cities and resort areas.
Check out our reviews of Hyatt Regency properties we’ve stayed at.

Hyatt
Similar to Hyatt Regency hotels, the actual Hyatt hotel brand is aimed at travelers who might otherwise stay at a Hilton, Sheraton or Marriott.
Hyatts are a premium brand with comfortable rooms, working spaces and a variety of restaurant and bar options.
Andaz
Andaz is one of Hyatt’s lifestyle brands and tries to incorporate the local culture and style into each property. They’re therefore a more premium version of IHG’s Hotel Indigo brand.
One standout feature of the Andaz brand is that the snacks and non-alcoholic beverages in each room’s minibar are free.
Hyatt Centric
Another of Hyatt’s lifestyle brands, Hyatt Centric hotels are full-service and aimed at millennials. This means they focus on areas like technology and have environmentally-friendly products, while being located in areas with a great nightlife.
The Unbound Collection
The Unbound Collection is a portfolio of boutique hotels located across several continents. There are currently fewer ~20 properties in the collection and it seems to be a similar concept to Hilton’s Curio Collection.
Hyatt Place
Hyatt Place is their most common brand with more than 325 properties worldwide, the majority of which are in the US. They’re a select-service brand providing a free breakfast and limited room service options.
Hyatt Place hotels are therefore situated above brands like Holiday Inn Express and below brands like Hilton.
Hyatt Places are one of my favorite brands as the rooms tend to be larger than similar brands from other hotel chains, offer a good buffet breakfast given that it’s included in the room rate and a large corner sofa.
Check out our reviews of Hyatt Place properties we’ve stayed at and 13 reasons why Hyatt Place is one of my favorite hotel brands.

Hyatt House
The Hyatt House brand is focused on travelers looking for an extended stay. That’s because they’re all-suite hotels with full kitchens and on-site laundry facilities.
They also provide a free breakfast with an Omelet Bar and are a pet-friendly brand.
Check out our reviews of Hyatt House properties we’ve stayed at.

Hyatt Zilara and Hyatt Ziva
The Hyatt Zilara and Hyatt Ziva brands are both all-inclusive hotels found in resort locations.
The primary difference in the two brands is that Hyatt Zilaras are adults-only hotels whereas Hyatt Zivas are family-friendly.
Hyatt Residence Club
Hyatt Residence Club is not so much a brand as a set of timeshare properties. Most of the properties can be found in beach and mountain resort areas across the US.
Miraval
A new addition to the Hyatt family, Miraval is a luxury wellness resort brand, with the first two properties being the Miraval Arizona and Miraval Austin.
With fine dining, a variety of onsite activities and rooms, suites and villas, the Miraval brand has a corresponding high price tag.
Exhale
Exhale isn’t a hotel brand, but is part of the World of Hyatt program nonetheless. Exhale offers spa services and fitness classes, so focuses on general wellbeing. Since late 2018, it’s been possible to both earn and redeem World of Hyatt points for services at Exhale spas.
Thompson Hotels
Thompson Hotels joined the Hyatt family in 2019 and are bookable through the Hyatt website using cash or points. While this brand doesn’t have a huge footprint, they have properties in some larger cities and seem to represent good value when using points.
Based on the limited research I’ve done for our own travel, it looks like Thompson Hotels properties tend to be pet-friendly and don’t charge a pet fee. We’re traveling full-time with our dog and pet fees sometimes cane our budget, so I’ll be keeping a close eye on Thompson Hotels in the future, especially when using the category 1-4 free night certificates from our credit cards.
Other Recently Joined Brands
In 2019 Hyatt acquired the following brands which will eventually be incorporated into the World of Hyatt program:
- Alila
- Destination Hotels
- Joie de Vivre
How We’ll Be Staying At Hyatt Brand Hotels
Due to their focus on premium experiences and high levels of service (and thus higher prices), we’re unlikely to have that many paid nights in Hyatt hotels on our 5 year, 50 state road trip.
Having said that, we’ll probably still rack up quite a few nights at Hyatt brands each year for a couple of reasons:
1) Hyatt Credit Card
Both Shae and I have the Hyatt credit card which comes with an anniversary free night certificate at a category 1-4 hotel.
We recently used these for a weekend stay at the Hyatt House Virginia Beach which is a brand new category 4 hotel. Our room was going for $500 per night, so holding the credit card is a great way for you to have a premium experience for only the $75 annual fee.
2) Chase Ultimate Rewards Transfer Partner
Hyatt are a transfer partner of Chase Ultimate Rewards (UR). If you have one of Chase’s premium credit cards, you can transfer your UR on a 1:1 basis to several different airlines and hotel chains, one of which is Hyatt.
Category 1 Hyatt hotels only require 5,000 points per night, so this can be an excellent use of your UR. Shae and I should have 300,000+ UR between us by the time we leave for our road trip. If we were to transfer those to the World of Hyatt loyalty program, we’d be able to book two months in category 1 Hyatt brand hotels for free.
What’s especially nice is that there are well over 100 category 1 hotels in more than 30 states. Although most of them are Hyatt Place hotels, there are also several Hyatt House and Hyatt Regency hotels on the list.
Your Opinion
What’s your favorite Hyatt brand and why? We’d love to hear your views in the comments below.
Exactly a year later I came across your article. I love the Hyatt brand and I have stayed at several of their properties globally. Soon I’ll be staying at an Unbound Collection location so I did a search to see what the differences are and I found your article. Very well explained, thank you for taking the time to talk about this great brand.
To answer your question, my favourite Hyatt brand is andaz. And there are a lot of reasons why, I’ll just name 3 on here:
the ambiance and atmosphere they create;
the people working there and their careful selection of staff who genuinely cares about you;
the beer and wine happy hour they have for the guests, brilliant idea to bring humans together!
Please let me know how year 1 went for you guys 🙂
Thanks for that! I’m looking forward to staying at an Andaz at some point on our road trip as I’ve only heard good things about the brand. The first six months of the trip has been going well so far – we’ve visited South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio, Vermont and are currently in Wisconsin.
Oh, welcome to Wisconsin if you’re still here!
Thanks! We left a few weeks ago but had a great time there – I think it’s my favorite state so far.
Hyatt comes after conservatives & loses.
Say good bye to my money.
As a conservative. We will NOT be staying at any Hyatt Hotels.
Hyatt hasn’t come after conservatives. As a company they’ve decided not to host meetings or conferences for organizations that spread hate or which target people of certain races, ethnicities, faiths, etc. If their refusal to host those types of conferences means a handful of people choose not to stay at their properties in the future, I doubt they’ll be losing too much sleep.
Good for Hyatt! There is too much support for hate right now. Glad they are staying above all of that nonsense.
I want to buy a lighted makeup mirror like you have at Hyatt Regency in Denver. Please send me information. Thank you.

Are you leveraging Hyatt’s new American Airlines program?
Yep – I have Platinum status with AA for now thanks to my Globalist status.
We just paid usd 600 for one night in Huntington beach. It was a Hyatt Regency resort. The room was at ground Level facing the highway. Noisy. We even requested high floor. I don’t trust this brand any more.
