On National Dog Day this year, Shae and I decided to do a bunch of dog-friendly stuff in Richmond, VA so that Truffles could join us all day.
We’d had people recommend that we check out Carytown due to its great restaurants and boutique stores, so we headed that way at lunchtime.
Seeing as we were in Carytown, we decided to have lunch at Carytown Burgers & Fries and it turned out to be a great decision. Here’s a review of our meal.

One of the reasons we picked Carytown Burgers & Fries for lunch was because they had a seating area out front that was pet-friendly. Shae popped inside to let the server know that we’d be sitting outside, so he brought out menus for us.

In addition to the regular food menu, there was a separate drinks menu:

Seeing as we were there for lunch, we could’ve taken advantage of their lunch combo which includes a burger, fries and a drink.

As you can see in the photo above, the participating burgers in the lunch combo are their hamburgers, cheeseburgers, turkey burgers and mock chik’n burgers. While $8.99 is a good deal, I had my eye on another burger.
Carytown Burgers & Fries has almost 20 specialty burgers in addition to chicken, vegetarian and vegan burgers, with their Barnyard Brawl burger sounding particularly amazing. In addition to the burger itself, it comes topped with bacon, a fried egg, a chicken tender, a couple of slices of white American cheese and The Works (mayo, mustard, pickles, onions, lettuce and tomato). I went ahead and ordered that, but asked for it with no cheese.

The burger was excellent and piled so high that it was hard to fit in my mouth.

Even though it wasn’t Happy Hour yet, margaritas were only $3.50 each rather than $7, so Shae got a couple of those because, well, why not?

For her lunch, she ordered a regular hamburger with The Works. She really enjoyed her burger, although it had a little too much mustard for her liking.

Unless the menu specifically mentions it (such as the chicken tender, hot dog and corn dog baskets), burgers don’t come with a side of fries. We therefore ordered a side of their Famous Fries to share; this was more than enough for two people, so I’m glad we didn’t order one each. Their fries were tasty as well and had some kind of seasoning on them which I guess is what makes them famous.

We always let Truffles try a little bit of our burger, but with this being National Dog Day we decided to treat her and ordered a hot dog just for her.
The thing is, Truffles isn’t like most dogs who’d scarf down a hot dog in two seconds given the opportunity. She’s actually a bit of a lazy eater, so doesn’t like making the effort to chew up large food items like this. That meant Truffles just stared at it for a while, probably drooling a little.

In the end we took pity on her and started breaking up the hot dog into smaller pieces.

Final Thoughts
Shae, Truffles and I had a great meal at Carytown Burgers & Fries in Richmond, Virginia. Their burgers are tasty, especially the Barnyard Brawl that I ordered. Their fries are very good and Truffles gave her approval of the hot dog we got her.
I also want to mention our server Sam as he was excellent. He was extremely friendly, funny and did a great job making sure we had everything we wanted without constantly hovering.
If you’re in Richmond and like your burgers, we’d definitely recommend checking out this restaurant.
