Stephen and I have always roamed (we lived in 10 places in our first 10 years of marriage) but we used to also have a home.
I grew up in Hampton Roads (or Tidewater or Coastal Virginia or whatever they’re calling it these days) from the age of 4 (I was born in Detroit, Michigan though and will always be a “Yankee” and a Michigander) and therefore claim Virginia as my home when people ask. Truffles was born and raised in Hampton Roads as well and knows when we are “home” in Portsmouth visiting her grandpawrents.

Stephen is heading off to parts unknown (well, I know them) for the 40K To Far Away Challenge with Frequent Miler, the other blog he writes for each week. When you wonder how Stephen knows so much about points and miles, a lot of it is thanks to Greg’s website. In fact, Greg and Nick from Frequent Miler know waaaaay more than even Stephen about these things, so Stephen has some interesting ideas for the challenge to attempt a win. (Go hubs!!) He’s left today on that adventure and he’ll be pretty occupied for the next 2 weeks or so with that.

So, with that being said, it’s your lucky day! You get to experience the first ever “Shae and Truffles Hometown Takeover!” While Stephen is away, we’re going to stay with my mom and stepdad (Truffles’ Grammy Tammy and GrampSteve – also known as Insta-grams and Insta-gramps) and visiting with my dad (Truffles’ Grandpa Joe) and other friends in the area. We’ll be in our old stomping grounds, sharing with you all the locals’ suggestions for food, drink, sniffs and things to do with and without your dog.

What you can expect to see from the blog for the next few weeks – photos, photos, photos! A lot more personal images and experiences as we explore home with the vision of a local in the timing of a tourist. Truffles! A lot more Truffles. Stephen manages to incorporate her into posts (an appropriate amount) since she has her own IG and Facebook as Truffles Travels. I would have her in everything all the time. This is your moment. If you’re a Truffles lover, you can expect to see more of her on the NHJR social media platforms. My unique brand of enthusiasm, education, emotional experiences and extrovertedness. Truffles and my favorite places in Hampton Roads.

What you can expect to miss from the blog while Stephen is away – Hotel reviews – unless you want a review of staying at my mom’s house for a future visit. which is possible because like Olive Garden, “when you’re here you’re family” at my mom’s. A dry British wit. Carefully composed and curated posts about our activities that are about 3,000 words. There will be no stats (dry your eyes, I know, we’ll all have to struggle through together) or points math of any kind. You’ll just have to wonder what the CPP value is over the next two weeks.
So here we go on this grand adventure! While Stephen’s away – the girls will play!

Welcome home Shea and Truffle’s!!
