While staying in New Albany, Shae and I looked for somewhere to go for a short hike. It didn’t seem like we had too many options in north Mississippi, but we spotted Wall Doxey State Park while looking on Google Maps and decided to take a trip there.
Wall Doxey State Park is about 40 minutes northwest of New Albany and is near the city of Holly Springs. It’s not a particularly large state park, but we enjoyed our visit there and it had several family-friendly activities.

The park has an entrance fee, but it was a very reasonable $4 per car if you’re just visiting for the day. As you can see in the photo below, there are various types of campsites you can stay at too.

The main feature of the park is Spring Lake, a 60 acre lake in the middle of the park. You can go fishing at the park, either from a couple of short piers or by taking your boat out on the lake as there’s a boat launch you can use. There’s apparently a nominal license fee to fish there, although I’m not sure how much that is.

Shae and I had taken Truffles there for a walk and the park has a nice 2.5 mile nature trail that goes around Spring Lake.

It’ll sound strange, but we appreciated that they had trash cans every half mile or so along the trail. Truffles has a tendency to do her business fairly early on when we go hiking which means we have to carry the poop bag most of the way. Having all these trash cans meant we could drop it off as early as she does 😉

Even though we visited in January, it was still a pretty walk around Wall Doxey State Park.

In addition to the lake and the nature trail, the park has tons of picnic shelters and picnic tables, so I imagine it’s a popular place for people to visit when it’s a little warmer.

For younger visitors there’s a playground…

…while for older visitors there are a couple of disc golf courses.

There are also proper restrooms rather than porta-potties which is good to have.

Final Thoughts
Wall Doxey State Park is a nice little state park in north Mississippi. With a reasonable $4 entrance fee per vehicle, a 2.5 mile nature trail around a pretty lake, fishing, playground, disc golf and more, it’s a great place to visit.

What happened to my orange tabby cat that was 3/4 endangered species on 11/16/2020. No one will say. First I was told she was stuck in a wall then she was electricuted and cut power off to the 80 th celebration of the park.
I’m really sorry to hear about your cat. We were only visiting the park last year, so I’m afraid I don’t know what happened.
Guess this explains who the guy is that kept putting bags of dog poo in our blue rain collection barrels that are spaced out every half mile or so…..
