When searching online for things to do in Nebraska, I came across a brewery that was seemingly in the middle of nowhere called Kinkaider Brewing Co.
I happened to click through to their website and I’m incredibly glad I did because I saw that not only do they have a brewery in Broken Bow and a few taprooms elsewhere in the state, but their Broken Bow location has an apartment you can stay at called Bed & Beer.
After emailing them to check that dogs were allowed to stay there (they are), I booked us in for a week there immediately as it looked like a fantastic place to stay, especially because the shower has a beer fridge built into it!
I was super-excited about our stay there in the weeks leading up to it and it didn’t disappoint. In fact, both Shae and I loved it there so much we’re already trying to find a reason to return when we’re back in the Midwest in the future. That’s a particularly high compliment from Shae seeing as she doesn’t even like beer!
Everything about our stay there was perfect, but it wasn’t just the Bed & Beer apartment that was amazing. The beer and food at the brewery was excellent, all the staff were unfailingly wonderful and it was fun getting to visit their other taprooms in Nebraska.
Here’s even more about why we loved staying at Kinkaider Brewing Co in Broken Bow, NE.
Bed & Beer
I’ll start by sharing what was so great about their Bed & Beer apartment. It’s next door to the brewery and is a spacious two bedroom apartment. I took a walkthrough video when we arrived, so you can watch that below.
Living Room
In case you don’t want to watch the video, you enter the apartment into an open plan living room, dining area and kitchen. The living room has three couches and an armchair, along with a large coffee table and a side table. There’s therefore plenty of seating for everyone who might stay here.
There was a large wall-mounted Roku TV in the corner; we ended up inserting our Fire TV Stick just because it meant we wouldn’t have to log in to Netflix, Hulu, etc.

Off to the side was a shelving unit with some board games and other decorations. If you remove all that stuff, you can pull it down because it’s also a Murphy bed.

Dining Area
Off to the right of the Murphy bed was a dining area. This had a fun dining table on top of a beer barrel with half a dozen high seats. On top of the table was a welcome folder full of useful information, from Wi-Fi details to local medical facilities to nearby grocery stores and restaurants and more.

Behind the dining table there were a couple of cornhole boards that were decorated with two of their beer can designs.

Kitchen
There was a full-sized kitchen equipped with everything you could possibly need during your stay. We travel full-time and have a portable kitchen with us and I don’t think I needed to use anything from that during our stay.
If there’ll be a large enough group of you staying there, you can ask Kinkaider to provide a keg of beer which gets left in the beer fridge in the kitchen (the black mini fridge in the photo below). I’d loved to have paid for a keg for the fun of it, but knew there was no way I’d get through a keg by myself during our stay!

Bedrooms
Bed & Beer at Kinkaider Brewing Co has two bedrooms, both of which have a queen sized bed and a dresser. The bedroom on the left hand side also has a railing to hang up your clothes.
Both beds have Serta adjustable mattresses; we didn’t make use of that functionality, but I’m sure some guests would greatly appreciate that.

The bedroom on the right didn’t have any windows. While some people might prefer having natural light in the bedrooms, we appreciated the lack of windows as it meant the room stayed extremely dark at night which helped us sleep soundly.
The other bedroom did have a window, but rather than facing the outside it looked into the brewery where they package and store the canned beers which was fun.
Throughout the apartment there were posters adorning the walls which featured artwork from their beer cans.

Bathroom
Down a short hallway was a half bathroom.

Next to that was the bathroom itself which had a good-sized walk-in shower and another sink. They provided all the bath towels you could possibly need – there were at least 10, but possibly more. The shower had large bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash too.

The pièce de résistance though could be found in the shower itself. Someone at Kinkaider is a genius and installed a beer fridge in the shower. It’s such a ridiculous but incredibly fun addition to the apartment that made us want to shower several times a day because there’s something strangely fun about having a beer while you shower.

I’d planned to go over to the brewery as soon as we arrived to pick up some beers to put in there, but it turned out they’d already stocked it with six of their different beers. We’d booked a week-long stay, so I’m not sure if they do the same if you only book Bed & Beer for one night.

I can’t say enough about how fantastic Kinkaider’s Bed & Beer was. It might’ve helped a little that we’d come straight from a fairly crappy Airbnb experience in Hay Springs right before this, but I seriously couldn’t fault it.
The apartment is incredibly spacious, everything you might possibly need for your stay was there, it was nice and quiet AND THERE’S A BEER FRIDGE IN THE SHOWER!
If you ever book a stay at Bed & Beer, one tip I would give is that you should lock both of the apartment’s doors. It’s not that it’s not safe there, but we had a couple of people trying to pull on the doors thinking it was the entrance to the brewery itself. It wasn’t a problem because we’d locked the doors ourselves, but it has the potential for embarrassment if you’ve just gotten out of the shower and hadn’t locked the door.
How To Book Kinkaider Brewing Co’s Bed & Beer
You can find out more about Bed & Beer on Kinkaider’s website. That then directs you to book the apartment via Lodgify. If you have a pet you’ll be bringing along, you can check a box during the booking process to notify them and which automatically adds on the pet fee.
How Much Does It Cost To Stay At Bed & Beer?
It looks like we might’ve gotten lucky when we booked Bed & Beer. I’d seen that they were charging ~$125 per night, but that a week-long stay only cost $350 + taxes & fees. That’s an absolute steal for a seven night stay, so I booked us in there for an entire week. Including a $25 pet fee, we paid $414.38, so an average of $59.20 per night.
However, it seems like that $350 rate for a week was possibly a mistake. When checking the pricing for this post, these are the rates now being charged:

As you can see, the nightly rate seems in keeping with what I saw when booking our stay back in March 2022, but the weekly rate has jumped from $350 to $750. $750 is still a reasonable price as it’s $300 cheaper than booking seven nights individually, but it’s not as much of a stunning deal as it appears that we got. Still, I’d happily pay $750 to stay there for a week again.
Kinkaider Brewing Co Broken Bow Taproom & Restaurant
Bed & Beer is next door to Kinkaider’s taproom and restaurant in Broken Bow.

Seating
They have a couple of tables and chairs you can sit at out front, but there’s plenty more seating inside.

There’s a large covered deck out back with even more seating.

Activities & Events
There are grassy areas where kids can run around, cornhole boards that anyone can play and even a beach volleyball court.

Kinkaider sometimes runs events, such as a cigar and spirits event they were holding in conjunction with Sideshow Spirits (one of their companies) and an oyster shucking event.

If we lived in Broken Bow or near any of their other taprooms (more about those later), I’d definitely sign up for Tumbler Tuesday. For only $25 to join their club, you can get a lot of value out of the membership even if you only visit an average of one Tuesday per month.

Goats!
Kinkaider has some fainting goats that live on site and sometimes roam around and you’re allowed to pet them.

Needless to say, Shae was in her element.

Kinkaider Brewing Co Menus
I’m not sure how frequently they change up their food menus, but here’s what was available to order when we were at Kinkaider in June 2022:

Here are the drinks menus too:

Kinkaider Brewing Co Drinks
One of the things that we (well, Shae) particularly appreciated about Kinkaider is that even though their focus is on beer, they have a wide selection of drinks available for people who’d rather drink something else.
Kinkaider owns Sideshow Spirits and Sideshow Cider, so those drinks are available on the menu, along with wines, cocktails, spirits and soft drinks. Their Sideshow Spirits cocktails were very good. We got to try all of them and our favorite one was the Witch Doctor Mai Tai which has rum, pineapple and coconut. Shae doesn’t even like the taste of coconut, but she loved this drink, as did I.
On our first night staying at Bed & Beer Shae sampled their different ciders:

Her favorite was the dark cherry cider, so she got some cans of that to go so that she could take advantage of the shower beer fridge too.

As for Kinkaider Brewing Co’s beer, it’s fantastic. Some breweries we’ve been to on the first 4.5 years of our 50 state road trip have been excellent, others have been mediocre. Some breweries only seem to produce a million different types of IPA, all of which are somewhat bland.
That’s not the case with Kinkaider though. They have more than a dozen different beers, all of which are unique, flavorful and tasty. I tried each of them seeing as we stayed there for an entire week and my favorite was the Hiram’s Bones Porter because I prefer darker beers. Surprisingly, their Bangarang tropical IPA was one of my other favorites (IPAs aren’t normally top of my list), as was their Dan The Wiser White Peach Ale. I’m not a big fan of sours, but I even enjoyed their sours – Camp Crush Strawberry & Raspberry Sour and their Snozzberry Sour.
Kinkaider has some quirky flavors too, like their Devil’s Gap Jalapeno Ale and Devil’s Gap Raspberry Jalapeno Ale. Both of these had an intense jalapeno flavor, yet they weren’t spicy hot. The Great Firebreather Cooler from Sideshow Spirits on the other hand had a spicy kick; that contains jalapeno vodka, triple sec and grapefruit.

Kinkaider Brewing Co Food
We had dinner at Kinkaider three of our seven nights at Bed & Beer, but also went there for drinks and snacks on a couple of other nights. Every time we went there we ordered one of their pretzels which came with mustard and beer cheese. We have no idea where they get the pretzels from, but they were tremendous – slightly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and good accompaniments.

Even Truffles who normally only likes meat snacks loved trying little bits of the pretzel.

On our first night I ordered their Sandhills Philly (sans cheese because I’m a weirdo who doesn’t like cheese) with a side of sweet potato waffle fries; both the sandwich and fries were very good.

Shae ordered their French dip. The au jus was incredibly salty which some might not like, but I tried it a bite of hers and enjoyed it, as did she.

Another night Shae ordered the pub mac ‘n cheese with beef tips which she thought was delicious.

I went for a couple of appetizers that night instead. One of those was the beer battered onion rings; they were great, but it was a much larger portion than I was anticipating (which isn’t a bad thing).

Being British, I was curious about what their Scotch eggs would be like and so I ordered those too. They were a little different to the store-bought Scotch eggs I’m used to back home, but they were very good and flavorful.

On our final night we both had their prime rib. The prime rib was massive and came with sides of mashed potato and sautéed brussels sprouts; once again, this meal was very good.

Something else I should mention is that the service at Kinkaider in Broken Bow was fantastic. We ended up being served by a number of people during our visit seeing as we were there for a week and they were all unfailingly kind, friendly and helpful. Bailey, Hayley, Aubrey, LB and Liz were all excellent, but there were other servers whose names we didn’t get who were lovely too.
We want to give a particular shoutout to LB though who was tremendous. He went above and beyond during our week there to ensure that we had an excellent stay. We probably would’ve wanted to return for another week at Kinkaider anyway, but his service reinforced that.
Is Kinkaider Brewing Co In Broken Bow Pet-Friendly?
Yes, the patio area at Kinkaider Brewing is dog-friendly, so it meant Truffles got to join us whenever we sat out there rather than her having to be left behind in Bed & Beer.

Kinkaider Brewing Co Brewery Tour
If you’d like to learn a little more about the inner workings of the brewery, Kinkaider offers a brewery tour. I don’t think they have set times that they run them; instead, you can reach out to them to book a tour.

LB offered to give us a tour during our stay, so we gladly took him up on the offer.

We got to learn more about the brewing process, canning, labeling, packaging, etc.

The tour included a tasting of some of their drinks including some of the liquor options from Sideshow Spirits.
As a side note, whoever does the designs for their labels does an incredible job. Each one is unique, yet when you see lots of the different designs together they have a familiar look and branding and so you can tell they’re from Kinkaider Brewing Co.

Other Kinkaider Brewing Co Locations
Kinkaider’s home base is in Broken Bow, NE, but they have a few other locations around Nebraska. At the time of writing this post there are taprooms in Grand Island, Lincoln and Omaha. They also own Sideshow Spirits which has a venue in Lincoln.
After leaving Broken Bow, our next stop was Lincoln and we knew we’d be staying in Omaha the following month. Shae and I therefore decided to visit all their locations just because we could!
Grand Island – Kinkaider
The slight issue was visiting their location in Grand Island because we weren’t due to stay in that city. However, that didn’t turn out to be a problem because a slight diversion when driving from Broken Bow to Lincoln meant we could hit that location.
With it being moving day, we had Truffles with us and they’re not pet-friendly inside, but they had some patio seating outside where dogs are allowed and so we stopped for a drink there.

While on the brewery tour, LB shared that each of Kinkaider’s locations has their own version of The Wiser Choice. They produce small batches of it that’s unique to each location, so I wanted to try each taproom’s version. That meant the first drink I ordered at their Grand Island taproom was their version of The Wiser Choice.

In addition to The Wiser Choice, Grand Island had a few beers on their menu that hadn’t been available at the Broken Bow location. I wanted to try all of those too, so Shae kindly offered to do the rest of the driving that day so I could also do a beer flight.
Unfortunately they were out of a couple of those untried beers at Grand Island, but a couple of them were available. As a result I got a flight with those two beers along with a few other beers I’d already had in Broken Bow and particularly enjoyed.

Lincoln – Kinkaider
Next up was their Lincoln taproom which is in a great location in the Haymarket area and happened to be just across the road from the Hyatt Place we stayed at.

They don’t serve food at this location, so they’re pet-friendly inside and out. We went for drinks there a couple of times; I tried their version of The Wiser Choice, then continued with Hiram’s Bones Porter because that’s my favorite of all their beers.

Lincoln – Sideshow Spirits
Also in Lincoln was Sideshow Spirits, so we checked them out on a different evening. I decided to do a flight of their different spirits:
- Apple brandy
- Barrel-aged vodka
- 100% Nebraska corn bourbon
- Peach whiskey
- Jalapeno vodka
I was surprised that my favorite of all of these was the peach whiskey, although they were all worth trying.

Shae on the other hand ordered one of their cocktails – a Spanish Harlem made with mezcal, chocolate, fired chili and smoked.

Omaha – Kinkaider
The final location that we needed to visit was Omaha and we did that last night. They were sadly out of their version of The Wiser Choice, so I went with the tried and tested Hiram’s Bones Porter and Shae had their Witch Doctor Mai Tai – a perfect way to round out our Kinkaider Brewing Co experience….for now.

Final Thoughts
As you can tell, we love Kinkaider Brewing Co and it’s my new favorite brewery. Their beers, ciders, spirits and cocktails are all excellent, the food at their Broken Bow location is delicious, the service at the location is fantastic and Bed & Beer was a perfect place to stay for a week. If you ever find yourself in Nebraska, do yourself a favor and visit Kinkaider – you won’t regret it!
