We recently spent three nights in Augusta, Georgia as part of our 5 year, 50 state road trip.
For some reason, Shae and I thought that it was the state capital (it’s not), so we needed to find some other stuff to do there.
I was recovering from a cold during our time there, so spent quite a bit of time in bed. We still managed to find some fun stuff to do though, none of which cost us anything.
So if you’re looking for free things to do in Augusta, here are three things that we did.
1) James Brown Statue
Although he was born in South Carolina, James Brown moved to Augusta at the age of four or five and grew up there.
If you walk down Broad Street, you’ll find a statue of the Godfather of Soul.

2) Augusta Riverwalk
Augusta Riverwalk is a walking path along the Savannah river in downtown Augusta. There are gardens, an amphitheater, playground and more.

3) Pendleton King Park
Seeing as we spent quite a bit of time in our hotel room due to me not feeling well, Truffles started to get cabin fever. We therefore looked up dog parks in the area where she’d be able to run around and get some of her energy out and came across Pendleton King Park.
This was only ten minutes from our hotel, so we headed there one afternoon. The dog park had two sections – one for small dogs and one for large dogs. There was tons of space for dogs to run around, as well as several obstacles in the large dog section.

Seeing as it’s set in 64 acres, Pendleton King Park is much more than just a dog park. There’s an 18 hole disc golf course…

…a playground with several climbing frames for kids…

…a pond and picnic tables all over the place…

…a tree walking trail…

…and a tank for kids to clamber over.

We spent a couple of hours at the park, but you could easily spend much more time there exploring.
