After leaving Abilene, Texas, the next stop on our road trip was Houston for a week, then on to Corpus Christi for five nights.
We took things fairly easy for those two weeks and didn’t do anything that I thought needed its own post, so here’s a roundup of everything we did in that time.
Dublin Bottling Works, Dublin
While driving from Abilene to Houston, we stopped off for a few hours in Dublin. We met up with Rebekah who’s in our Facebook group and visited Dublin Bottling Works.

The three of us had ice cream floats with sodas from the bottling works…

…then went on a tour of the bottling works and their museum. Until fairly recently, they also bottled Dr Pepper and the old owner had a huge collection of Dr Pepper paraphernalia, some of which is now on display in the museum.

Lunch At Chuy’s
After arriving in Houston, we met up with Shae’s friend Larissa for lunch at Chuy’s. Chuy’s is a Tex-Mex restaurant chain which makes their own fresh tortillas throughout the day and has tasty (and spicy) salsa. We enjoyed it so much, we’ve gone back for dinner since then.

Day Trip To Galveston
One of my favorite days of our road trip so far was our day trip down to Galveston when staying in Houston. So much so that I wish we’d actually stayed in Galveston rather than Houston.

We had beautiful weather, the beach was empty as it was off-season, stores were pet-friendly and it was just an all round perfect day. You can read more about what we got up to in Galveston here.

Houston Arboretum & Nature Center
One humid evening, we went for a three mile walk around Houston Arboretum & Nature Center. It’s not the most scenic of places, but it was nice to get outside for an hour and Truffles appreciated sniffing lots of new things.

Space Center
Shae and I decided to see if Houston still had a problem they needed to solve by visiting the Space Center.

The Space Center is definitely worth doing, especially for the ~90 minute tram tour that’s included with your ticket. You get to visit Mission Control…

…and see the enormous Saturn V rocket.

The Space Center is also home to a Boeing 747 that was used to transport space shuttles…

…and you can even touch a piece of moon rock.

Whataburger
We’d been told that we needed to eat at Whataburger while in Texas, so that had been on our list of places to visit. We saw that Whataburger’s first restaurant was in Corpus Christi, so decided to wait until we arrived in the city to eat there, even though the original restaurant is no longer open.
Shae got a burger, while I went for their honey BBQ chicken strip sandwich on Texas toast. Both of us really liked our food, so we’re planning on eating there again before leaving Texas.

Port Aransas
The weather wasn’t great during our time in Corpus Christi. It was overcast everyday and felt colder than 50° due to how windy it was. Despite the weather, we went for a couple of long walks along the beach in Port Aransas.

As the beach was so deserted, we let Truffles off leash to chase after her ball. That meant she was exhausted both days having run at least 5-6 miles each day.

Ward Island
I had to work one of our days in Corpus Christi, so Shae and Nicole (also from our Facebook group) visited Ward Island for a walk along the beach with Nicole’s dog. Ward Island is home to Texas A&M’s Corpus Christi campus, so it’s probably not a bad place to go to college when the weather’s nice.

And that’s pretty much our last two weeks summed up!
