Having spent a few days in Amsterdam, it was time for me and Shae to head back to the US to continue our 50 state road trip.
We’d flown with Delta from Boston to London Heathrow (check out a review of that flight here), with our return flight also being with them, albeit via an open jaw from Amsterdam.
The quality of the flight was similar to our flight to the UK – better than expected, although with not particularly warm flight attendants.
Here’s a review of our flight from Amsterdam to Boston in Delta Main Cabin (Economy) class.
Delta Airlines 259
Amsterdam (AMS) – Boston (BOS)
Scheduled Departure Time: 11:20 April 3, 2019
Scheduled Arrival Time: 13:15 March 19, 2019
Seats: 25B (me) and 25A (Shae)
Flight Class: Main Cabin (Economy)
Boarding for the flight went pretty quickly, so we pushed back from the gate at 11:15, a few minutes ahead of schedule.
On our flight to the UK, the Economy cabin had been in a 2-3-2 seating arrangement, but on this flight is was 2-4-2. The flight was only about half full, so some people in the center section had a row of four seats to themselves.

Shae and I had chosen seats on the left side of the plane, so it was just us seeing as it was a row of two. Each seat had a blanket and pillow sitting on them.

I had decent leg room as I’m only 5’9″ – I imagine it’s less comfortable for someone who’s 6′ or more.

Every seat has its own touchscreen IFE (in-flight entertainment) unit. The headphone jack is immediately below the screen, as is a USB port to charge your phone or tablet.

There was also a regular power outlet between the seats in front of us.

As with our flight over to Europe, the IFE had a good entertainment selection. There were hundreds of movies, TV shows, albums and games to choose from.

If we’d wanted to get online, we had several different options. One of the nice features of flying with Delta is that we could’ve accessed free Wi-Fi if all we’d wanted to do was use messaging apps.

Before taking off, the flight attendants handed out eye masks and earphones. I told the flight attendant that I didn’t need either, but she gave me both anyway.

Our flight took off at 11:33am and shortly after the flight attendants came around with a hot towel and bottle of water.
Once they’d passed through the cabin doing that, they came back through with a drink and snack service. One of my favorite things about flying Delta is that it means we get Biscoff cookies.

Less than half an hour later, they came back through with the main meal service. Before taking off, they’d handed out menus listing the meal options for both scheduled meals, along with a drinks menu on the back. On international economy flights, Delta offers complimentary beer, wine and spirits, along with soft drinks.

I was a little disappointed when seeing the meal options as all three main meals and both pre-arrival snacks had cheese in them. I don’t like cheese, so was concerned about how hungry I was going to end up being.
Out of all the main meal options, the honey glazed chicken breast with cheddar and onion mashed potatoes and yellow and orange carrots seemed like my best choice as it sounded like the cheese would be minimal.
My taste buds are fairly sensitive to cheese, but there mustn’t have been much in the mashed potatoes as they tasted fine to me. The chicken on the other hand was dry and completely flavorless, so it very much needed the sauce that it came in.
The meal came with a side salad, cheese and crackers, pretzel roll, butter and a lemon and caramel cheesecake.

Shae chose the ravioli which she thought was extremely tasty.

In Economy class, Delta provides plasticware that’s pretty sturdy, so there’s no concern about it breaking while eating your meal.

The meal service was complete by 12:55pm, which was about half an hour after it started. I didn’t have any luck falling asleep, so I ended up watching several episodes of How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory.
The flight was completely uneventful, so the next thing of note was the pre-arrival snack served at 5:20pm. I asked for the turkey and cheese croissant. Although it was listed as being warm, thankfully the cheese hadn’t melted and so I was able to peel it off without any issue. The remaining turkey croissant was about as good as you might imagine an airplane turkey croissant to be (i.e. not very good).

Shae decided to go for the four cheese pizza twist which she thought was OK.

We were then offered an ice cream; I love Magnums, so I was pleased that’s what they handed out.

Shortly before landing, the flight attendants came back through to hand out a tiny Toblerone.

Not long after that, we touched down at Boston Logan International Airport.
Cost
Our flights from Boston to Heathrow and then Amsterdam to Boston cost us 35,000 Delta SkyMiles plus $49.13 in taxes and fees per person round trip.
Final Thoughts
Overall, this was another decent international flight with Delta in Economy class. The seats were comfortable enough, legroom was fine and the in-flight entertainment options were great.
The food wasn’t as good on this flight and not just because they all came with cheese! Once again, the flight attendants worked hard and were competent, but lacked any warmth when interacting with passengers.
If you’re happy enough flying in Economy across the Atlantic, Delta is a good option who I’d be happy flying with again.
Thank you for this comprehensive review.
You’re welcome, thanks!
