The love affair began on June 6, 2016.
My parents had come to visit from the UK and we surprised them with a trip up to Niagara Falls. On our final day, we stopped by BeaverTails which had been recommended to us by a friend.
It was one of the best recommendations we’ve ever received. From our first bite of its doughy deliciousness, we were in love.

So as we recently wandered around Ottawa, our hearts skipped a beat when we saw it.
BeaverTails.

In case you’re wondering what they are, BeaverTails are wholewheat pastries shaped like – yep, you guessed it – beaver tails. They’re then topped with your choice of tasty toppings, almost like a dessert pizza.
They’re soft, they’re warm, they’re huge and they’re quite simply amazing.

In case you can’t make out the topping choices above, you can choose from:
- Cinnamon and sugar
- Chocolate hazelnut
- Maple spread
- Apple cinnamon
- Avalanche – Skor cheesecake
- Triple Trip – chocolate hazelnut spread, peanut butter and Reese’s Pieces
- Coco vanil’ – Oreo cookies & vanilla icing
- Banana chocolate – chocolate hazelnut spread and chopped bananas
- Killaloe Sunrise – cinnamon, sugar and lemon
- Garlic butter and cheese
Shae and I both went for the same flavors we’d gotten when we lost our BeaverTails virginity back in 2016. She ordered a banana chocolate one, while I got one topped with apple cinnamon.

That doesn’t really do justice to how big these things are, so here’s Shae’s mouth by point of comparison.

There were a few tables outside their little cabin, so we sat there enjoying our snacks in the sun.

So if you ever find yourself in Canada or one of a handful US locations, be sure to stuff your face with a BeaverTail – it’s a life choice you won’t regret.
Thanks so much for the review. Oh my goodness! That looked DELICIOUS!! Will have to try them one of these days. Todd would have to share it with me as it looks quite large. I wonder if there exists a difference in quality of beaver tails in Canada versus those in the United States?
Shae and I will hopefully find out in the future!
I can almost taste Shae’s one!
And they had to go & spoil the sign with the calories 😉
I actually felt pretty good about it – I’d figured given their size that ours would’ve been far more than 500 calories!
