When looking at our accommodation options for Memphis, we didn’t have many potential choices that fit our budget cash-wise.
Thankfully Hyatt came to the rescue with three Hyatt Place properties in Memphis that were all only 5,000 points per night. It looked like they were all in good locations around the city, with one in Germantown and another out by Wolfchase Galleria.
In the end we decided to book the Hyatt Place Memphis/Primacy Parkway as that was the one closest to downtown Memphis. With only five days in the city and several things we wanted to see downtown, that seemed like the smartest option. It ended up being a good choice as it was in a convenient location, had friendly staff and a wonderful shower.
Here’s a complete review of our stay at the Hyatt Place Memphis/Primacy Parkway in Tennessee.
Check-In
We moved on to Memphis from Chattanooga which meant we crossed a time zone. It was therefore about 6:30pm by the time we arrived. Check-in was quick and easy and we were asked if we wanted a high or low floor. We said high in the hope that we might be on the top floor so that no one would stomp around loudly above us (and therefore causing Truffles to bark), so they gave us room 602. There are six floors at the hotel, so we did end up being on the top floor 🙂

Bedroom
If you’ve ever stayed at a Hyatt Place (or read any of our reviews of Hyatt Places we’ve stayed at), the layout of the room will be familiar. When entering the room, the corner sleeper sofa was on the right hand side. I don’t know if it’s just my imagination, but it felt a little longer than normal. There were also power outlets behind the side table – a feature that many Hyatt Places don’t provide.

On the left side of the room when entering was a wet bar. As always, this had the coffee maker on top and mini fridge beneath.

There was also a safe beneath the sink which isn’t a feature you normally get at Hyatt Places.

Opposite the wet bar was a desk and office chair…

…while in the middle of the room was the TV which can be turned a little to either face the sofa or the bed.

As always, the king bed was very comfortable, as were the pillows, while the blackout curtains worked well. Both sides of the bed had power outlets beneath the side shelves.

Behind the TV was a closet which contained an iron, ironing board and luggage rack.

Bathroom
To the right of the closet was the room’s sink and vanity, with a dresser to the left of it.

The toiletries were the standard Barney Kenet M.D. ones you get when staying at Hyatt Place. They’re OK, but the shampoo doesn’t tend to lather up too well.

The bathroom had a walk-in shower. The shower was one of the best ones we’ve had all year as the water pressure was amazing. I’m not someone that just likes to stand around under the shower once I’ve washed, but I could make an exception for this one.

Breakfast
Breakfast is free when staying at the Hyatt Place Memphis/Primacy Parkway. In theory it’s only meant to be free for World of Hyatt members who book directly (rather than via sites like Expedia and Hotels.com), but in reality there wasn’t anyone checking.
Hot options always included scrambled eggs and some kind of breakfast potatoes, while the other hot options rotated each day, with biscuits, sausage gravy and bacon the day I took the photos.

The other breakfast options remained the same each day, other than the freshly cut fruit options which sometimes differed.

As for beverages, there was a coffee and tea station, juices, milk and water. The tea selection was a little disappointing for me personally as they never had any English Breakfast tea which is the only kind I like.

Amenities
The Hyatt Place Memphis/Primacy Parkway only has a few amenities. They have a fitness room, but apparently I forgot to get photos of that even though I was sure I’d taken them the night we arrived.
There’s no guest laundry area, although there is a swimming pool. It’s an outdoor pool though, so it was closed during our stay as we visited at the beginning of December.

In an alcove near the elevators there’s a business center which has a couple of computers and a printer.

If you’re hungry during your stay, you have a few options. There’s a pantry area next to the front desk that has some snacks and drinks.

There’s also a bar area where you can order something a little more filling, along with alcoholic drinks.

Pet Policy
The Hyatt Place Memphis/Primacy Parkway is a pet-friendly hotel. They allow up to two dogs per room provided they each weigh under 50 lbs. The pet fee is $75 for 1-6 nights and $175 for 7+ nights.
The hotel didn’t have a huge amount of grass, although there were grassy areas all around the perimeter.
Service
Service was very good at the hotel, with all the staff being very friendly.
Check-In & Check-Out Times
Check-in is at 3pm and check-out is at 12pm.
Wi-Fi
The Wi-Fi connection was good and it seemed speedy.
Location
The hotel is just off I-240 and is only 20-25 minutes from downtown Memphis. There are plenty of restaurants and stores close by.
Parking
The parking lot surrounds the hotel, so there were always lots of parking spots available. It’s also free to park there.
Cost
We booked our stay using points. Seeing as the Hyatt Place Memphis/Primacy Parkway is a category 1 property, it cost us 5,000 points per night, so a total of 25,000 points for our five night stay.
If we’d paid cash it would’ve cost us $132.84 per night. That means we got 2.66cpp (cents per point) of value by using points which is pretty good for World of Hyatt points.
Something that was nice was that the hotel offers 250 bonus points per night when you decline housekeeping by using the door hanger that’s in your room.

As you can see in the photo above, it’s not valid on one night stays or the night before check-out seeing as housekeeping will always have to clean your room the next day in those instances. We hardly ever get housekeeping anyway, so I love it when we get a chance to earn bonus points through programs such as these.
Be sure to check on the points being awarded though. We declined housekeeping four days and so should’ve earned 1,000 points. They only credited us with three days and for only 200 points for each of those days, which meant we earned 600 points rather than 1,000. I followed up with my concierge (one of the benefits of having Globalist status) to get the other 400 points credited, but she bumped up our total to 2,500 points instead which was really nice.
Final Thoughts
We had a nice stay at the Hyatt Place Memphis/Primacy Parkway. Our room was spacious and comfortable as always, the staff members were nice and the shower was fantastic.
If we ever return to Memphis, I’d be happy staying here again.
Truffles Approval Rating
Truffles gives this hotel three paws out of four – pawsome! It was nice being on the top floor which made it a little quieter, the pet fee of $75 was reasonable for a five night stay and she enjoyed getting petted by some of the front desk staff.
