When we mentioned we were planning to spend 3.5 weeks in Mississippi, everyone said they thought it was 3 weeks too long.
I definitely wish we’d spent 10 days in Biloxi instead of Jackson. With only a week in Biloxi, it just wasn’t enough. I couldn’t get enough of the beach, the southern hospitality, the walkability and the great hotel.
Biloxi Beach
First. There was the beach. Besides being beautiful, it’s also historic as the site of the wade-ins from the 60’s Civil Rights Movement.

The sunrise and sunsets were fantastic too! I highly recommend a walk down the pier every morning and evening for some quiet and pictures.
The Sugar Factory
We captured the sunset one evening because we walked down to The Sugar Factory which can be found in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. We used a Groupon and some of my teaching money for our night out. Here’s my pro-tip. Have a cocktail. Skip the goblet drinks. Have the rainbow sliders (you get a duck with them!) and a side of fries. Skip the main courses. Have a boozy milkshake. Share it.

Hard Rock Casino
We stopped in to the casino on two nights. The second night we had Truffles with us and because the Hard Rock Hotel is pet-friendly and Truffles was in her backpack, no one seemed to mind that she was there. We both left up the first night and I left up the second! Whoop whoop! Hashtag Baller.
Robo Bar
Pro-tip at the Hard Rock Casino Biloxi besides having fun and being responsible with your gambling – go to the Robo Bar for happy hour from 4-7pm Monday-Friday. They have BOGO cocktails – yes, you read that right – Buy One Get One (FREE). Cocktails are only $8 to start with, so you can have a lot of fun with few funds. And who doesn’t want a drink mixed by a robot?!
Here’s a video we took of our drinks being made:
Ocean Springs
We spent an afternoon in Ocean Springs which is only a 10-minute drive from Biloxi and the beach there is dog-friendly! Ocean Springs is a super cute little town that you shouldn’t miss.

Sharkheads
As we left town we stopped in at Sharkheads which was suggested by a reader. We had a great time being silly and grabbing a postcard. They’re pet-friendly as long as your pet can be carried which we always love.
Final Thoughts
When you think of Mississippi you might be tempted to give it a miss. Don’t. There’s some great Civil Rights history and best of all – sand for your toes.
I knew yall would love Biloxi
Wow! Thanks for this post and including info about the pets.
Can you walk your dog on the boardwalk in Biloxi as long as they don’t go on the beach?
I believe so – I don’t remember seeing signs saying they’re not allowed on the boardwalk.
