It’s a good job Shae and I found so many free things to do in Richmond VA as it meant we had room in our budget to try out some great food in the city.
We had tasty BBQ at Buz and Ned’s and great burgers at Carytown Burgers & Fries. Just before leaving Richmond to head up to Roanoke, we had one more restaurant stop to make – Bottoms Up Pizza.
We’d had a few people recommend that we eat at Bottoms Up Pizza, but my mistake when booking our Richmond hotel meant we had a day less in Virginia’s capital than originally expected. It therefore seemed like we were going to miss out on their pizza, but we called the restaurant to check if they had a pet-friendly patio area. That’s because we needed lunch before driving up to Roanoke and would have Truffles with us after checking out of our hotel.
They confirmed that they did have a pet-friendly patio, so off to Bottoms Up Pizza we went. Here’s a review of our lunch there.

Like I mentioned above, we had Truffles with us and so took a seat on their patio area out back. It was pretty hot that day, so we were the only ones out there; the tables all had umbrellas though which provided enough shade for us.

If you prefer to stay in the cool, there’s plenty of seating indoors.

After taking our seats, we were given copies of their menu. The photos of the menu below are a weird color; I think it was because of the color of the umbrella over our heads.

There was also a good selection of drinks to choose from.

I like my pizza with as much meat as possible, so I ordered a slice of Meat Masters which comes with ground beef, Italian sausage, ham and pepperoni.
Before getting the pizza, I’d thought it was a little pricey at $7.75 for one slice of Meat Masters. However, the slice is basically one quarter of a large pizza which makes it much better value.

The base was incredibly thick as well – much taller than the photo above makes it look. Despite it being something like an inch thick, the base was also light and airy – like a larger and much tastier version of the base at Pizza Hut. My slice of Meat Masters also came loaded with meat – just how I like it!
Shae rarely orders anything other than cheese and tomato pizza and Bottoms Up Pizza was no exception. She loved her slice too and it was plenty filling.

Well, I say it was plenty filling but there’s always room for dessert. Bottoms Up had several dessert options and so we got a slice of flourless chocolate torte. It wasn’t a huge slice, but that was no bad thing considering how rich it tasted.

In addition to having great pizza, we also had a great server. Allen was very friendly and personable and did a good job making sure our drinks were kept full considering how hot it was outside.
Final Thoughts
I can see why so many people had recommended Bottoms Up Pizza. Their slices are giant, they’re generous with the toppings, the pizza tasted great and the service was excellent. If you need pizza while in Richmond, look no further than Bottoms Up Pizza.

Great review & photos of Candlewood Suites.
And fantastic review of Bottoms Up Pizza.
I love your photos…
I really enjoy seeing the menus. I live near Tel Aviv, & prices here would be 3x higher those!
I hope to get to Richmond on one of my trips back to the U.S.
Does Shae also do reviews, or blogs, as you do?
I just remembered I read your review of Ned& Buzz.
Another great review, and wonderful photos.
How would you compare Richmond & Asheville?
Which do you prefer?
We haven’t actually visited Asheville yet, so I’m not too sure – I’ve heard it’s a great city though. We’ll probably visit North Carolina in a couple of years as we’ll be out west next year.
Shae sometimes writes posts on here – you can find all of them here: https://nohomejustroam.com/author/shae/
Some of those are reviews of things we’ve done, but she does it in a different style.
The service was completely below standards. ‘’Extremely Poor Management’’
My wife and I placed an order at the extreme sum of $125.00. After waiting over an hour we requested to speak to management. Charles, the general manager, was terribly unprofessional. He continuously interrupted the reporting of order errors. We were charged a ridiculous $15.00 extra for 1 pepperoni topping. They even charged extra for the pizza sauce. The order was missing food. We ordered portobello mushrooms and French fries that were both not received. The pizza was extremely hard on the bottom and the crust. We called four times each time waiting more than 20 minutes for customer assistance.
The staff were worst than the food, which was awful. How in the world is this place in business.
