After taking a wander around Gold King Mine & Ghost Town, Shae and I were ready for some lunch. Shae had been to Jerome a few days earlier with her mom and stepdad, so they’d been able to scope out the town.
They’d eaten lunch at Haunted Hamburger and the food was so good that Shae wanted to take me there too, so off to the Haunted Hamburger we went.

The day we visited was one of our road trip moving days, so we were moving on from Prescott Valley to Flagstaff. That meant we had our dog Truffles with us and so needed somewhere pet-friendly. Thankfully Haunted Hamburger has a pet-friendly patio; this had the added benefit of being outside as we hadn’t received our second COVID vaccine shot at that stage.

The restaurant was popular that lunchtime which meant we had something like a 20 minute wait for a table (we probably could’ve been seated earlier inside). Some of that time was spent enjoying the t-shirts they sell.

When a table opened up we were lucky to have it be at the far end of the patio which meant we got an unobstructed view (other than the roof below) of the distant scenery.

Seeing as Shae had already eaten there, she had a good idea of what was on the menu. I needed a few extra minutes to decide though because so many of the options sounded delicious.

The menu also shares the building’s ghostly history.

Some of the sandwiches and other entrees sounded good, but you can’t go to a place with ‘hamburger’ in its name and not get a hamburger, so that’s what I did.
It was still tricky deciding which of their burgers to get, but I ended up ordering the southwest sourdough burger which comes with bacon, pepper jack, green chilies, chipotle mayo and guacamole. I don’t like cheese or guacamole, so I ordered mine without both those things.

Burgers and sandwiches come with a choice of fries, twice baked potato, spring greens or jalapeno coleslaw. You have to have fries with a burger, but their jalapeno coleslaw sounded intriguing.
The great thing was that Shae had similar feelings, so I ordered the jalapeno coleslaw with my burger and she ordered fries with her meal so that we could split them. Seeing as she’d already had a burger when eating there a few days beforehand, this time she went for the Cajun sourdough chicken sandwich. That comes with Cajun seasoned chicken breast, bacon, pepper jack, green chilies and chipotle mayo on grilled sourdough; she got the chipotle mayo on the side.

My burger was delicious – I could definitely see why Shae had recommended eating there. The burger was juicy and meaty, while the sourdough bread was perfectly toasted. As for the sides, the fries were fantastic, as was the jalapeno coleslaw. Shae enjoyed her chicken sandwich as well; I tried a little of it and would recommend that too.
Shae tends to drive in the morning and I drive in the afternoon on moving days. That meant I was driving the afternoon stretch of our journey up to Flagstaff, so she ordered one of their boozy milkshakes to go – Chocolate Devil which contains Ghirardelli chocolate liquor and Stoli vanilla vodka. And yes, it did taste as good as it sounds.

Final Thoughts
Jerome is a cute little town, so if you ever stop there then we’d highly recommend having lunch or dinner at Haunted Hamburger. Their burgers and sandwiches are delicious and it’s worth getting both their fries and jalapeno coleslaw as sides. The restaurant has lovely views and service was good too.
