After hiking up to Cathedral Rock, we decided to reward ourselves by going out to dinner in Sedona.
Seeing as we had our dog Truffles with us, we needed to eat somewhere that had a pet-friendly patio. When searching online, Hideaway House fit the bill and had good reviews, so we headed there.
With it being dinner time on a Friday evening, there was a little bit of a wait. Thankfully they had some benches outside where you could sit and Shae’s mom and stepdad went inside to grab us drinks while we waited.

After about 30 minutes they had a table for us, so we headed out to our table. Hideaway House has a regular patio and what seemed to be more like a balcony area – we got a table at the far end of the balcony. I was concerned that it was going to be chilly as it was 7pm by then (I was only in shorts and t-shirt due to our hike), but there was some siding which helped protect from the breeze. The area was still well aerated though which we appreciated seeing as we hadn’t received our second COVID vaccinations at that point.
With it being Sedona, the view was lovely.

While we’d been waiting outside I’d taken a look at their menu online to see what was available, but checked their printed menu once we were seated just in case it was different.

I ordered a State 48 Mango Wheat beer, while Shae got a glass of red wine.

We got a couple of appetizers for the table – homemade bread with balsamic and infused extra virgin olive oil and mussels in garlic white wine sauce.

I tried both the bread and the mussels and both were very good, with the mussels being particularly flavorful thanks to the garlic white wine sauce.

The four of us each ordered something different. Shae’s mom and stepdad got the mussels with pasta and meat lasagna respectively and they both enjoyed their entrees.

The mussels entrée was effectively the same as the appetizer, but seemed to be a slightly larger serving and came with pasta.

Shae ordered the spaghetti with meatballs (which she thought was good), while I got the beef and blue sandwich.

The beef and blue sandwich has sliced and chilled roast beef with blue cheese, onion, tomato and arugula on toasted bread with Au Jus. I don’t like cheese, so I ordered mine without the blue cheese.
I hadn’t paid attention to the fact that the roast beef was chilled, so it seemed a little strange having a toasted sandwich with cold meat inside and warm Au Jus, but it was tasty nonetheless. The fries were very good too – crispy and nicely seasoned.

For dessert Shae’s mom and stepdad shared cobbler. I think it was peach cobbler, but I didn’t take a photo of the dessert menu and their online dessert menu doesn’t list the cobbler, so I can’t remember for sure.

Shae always goes for a chocolate dessert provided it’s not full of nuts and Hideaway House had just the thing – a Ghiradelli chocolate flourless cake.

Now, there’s something you should know about Shae. She takes her chocolate desserts very seriously. It’s therefore a huge thing that she described this dessert as “life-changing”. There are thick, rich chocolate ganache desserts in the UK made by Gü which we both love and this Ghiradelli chocolate flourless cake was like those on steroids.
I tried some of her dessert (thankfully Shae didn’t poke me with her fork) and I agree that it was fantastic – rich, so much flavor and just simply delicious.

We’d therefore recommend eating at Hideaway House on a visit to Sedona if for no other reason than to try this delicious dessert. The rest of their food was good too, while our server Trista was excellent.
