Back in April we happened to be staying in Flagstaff at the same time that our friends Carrie and Drew were there. On my birthday morning we arranged to meet up for brunch and Carrie suggested eating at The Toasted Owl Café.
The Toasted Owl Café has pet-friendly outdoor seating which worked out perfectly as it meant that Truffles could join us. We were heading on to the Grand Canyon after brunch and so this meant we wouldn’t have to head back to our hotel to pick her up first.

Two things caught our eye when we arrived – $3 mimosas and $5 giant cinnamon rolls.

Before even looking at the food menu, we ordered one of each of those.

The cinnamon roll was indeed giant and was definitely one of the best cinnamon rolls I’ve ever had. Soft, flavorful and plenty of glaze all over it.

OK, so Truffles is a small dog, but here she is for comparison against the size of the cinnamon roll!

As you can see on the menu, The Toasted Owl Café serves breakfast and lunch all day.

So much of what was on the menu sounded good, but I ended up settling on their Spanish omelette. This consisted of three eggs, pork chorizo, onion, peppers, tomato, black beans, cheddar cheese and green chile sauce. I don’t like cheese, so I got mine without that. The omelette comes with sides of potatoes and toast.

My Spanish omelette was simply fantastic. The omelette itself was excellent, with the chorizo and green chile sauce spicing things up without being too hot, while the potatoes were cooked absolutely perfectly. It was a lot of food having already had shared the cinnamon roll with Shae, but there was no way I was leaving any of it on my plate and so I polished it all off.
Shae ordered the Owlapeño scramble which featured cream cheese jalapeno poppers, potatoes and a tortilla on the side of pickled jalapenos, scrambled cheesy eggs and spicy green chili sauce. She loved her meal just as much as I loved mine.

It ended up being a lovely meal – great food, great drinks and great company.

In fact, we enjoyed our brunch there so much that Shae and I decided to eat there the following month when we returned to Flagstaff for a week in May. It had been more than two weeks after our second COVID shots by that point, so we felt more comfortable eating inside that time.
The inside of The Toasted Owl Café is really cute, decorated throughout with all kinds of owl artwork.

Despite them having a bunch of other tasty-sounding menu items, Shae and I had loved the meals we’d had the first time so much that we decided to order the same thing again. Sometimes things aren’t as good the second time around; my Spanish omelette wasn’t one of them – it was just as good as I remembered.
If you ever find yourself visiting or passing through Flagstaff, we’d both highly recommend eating at The Toasted Owl Café.
