After visiting The Broadmoor Seven Falls, Shae, Truffles and I went for a quick drink at Cerberus Brewing Company.
While sitting out on their patio, we got chatting to some people at another table (Mitch, Emily and Jasmine) and shared about our road trip and that that was why we were in Colorado Springs. They recommended that we eat at Edelweiss Restaurant while we were in the area which is where a couple of them worked.
When looking it up online later on we saw that they had good reviews and so, seeing as we like German restaurants, headed over there one evening for dinner.

The restaurant is very popular, so the people we’d met recommended that we make a reservation online (which you can do here). Due to the restaurant’s popularity and COVID-related capacity restrictions, they asked that you don’t spend more than 1.5-2 hours there depending on your party size.

We ate at Edelweiss after exploring Manitou Springs and Old Colorado City one day, so we had our dog with us. We knew ahead of time that this wouldn’t be an issue because their outdoor seating is pet-friendly, but it meant that I headed inside to check on our table while Shae waited outside with Truffles.
While inside, a few things caught my eye – the daily specials, a fun mimosa deal and all kinds of desserts.

Our table was immediately available on their cute patio area, so Shae and Truffles came through the side gate and we took our seats. All of the tables had some kind of cover which was appreciated because it was still warm and sunny out.

First up we had to decide what to drink. Here are the various drinks menus:

Shae had agreed to be the designated driver, so she had a soda which came with more in a carafe so she could refill if needed.

The people we’d met at Cerberus Brewing Company had given us a heads up that Edelweiss serves boots of beer. There was no way I was passing up the opportunity to have that experience, so I ordered a boot of the Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel.

Yes, it really is as big as it looks!

Next up was deciding what to have for dinner – here’s what’s on their menu.

I normally go for some kind of wurst (sausage) option at German restaurants but decided to shake things up this time by ordering their weinerschnitzel. Back when we lived in the UK, we had friends from Hungary and they made a mean goulash. It had been ages since Shae had eaten that, so she ordered the Hungarian goulash which also came with spätzle – another of her favorites.
While we waited for our entrées, our server brought out some bread rolls and salads. I’d never actually tried beetroot before and so was surprised that it tasted better than I expected. The salad had some kind of vinegar dressing which was very good.

While eating the roll and salad, I continued working on my boot of beer. That meant that by the time our dinner arrived, I was already fairly full! I therefore only ate half of it at the time and took half to go, but it was very good – both that day and the following day when I had the leftovers. The wienershnitzel was very tasty (Truffles agreed when I shared some with her) and the potatoes were nice and crispy.

Shae loved her goulash too; I tried some and it was very flavorful with nice, tender beef. We’d therefore both recommend the entrées that we ordered.

Despite being so full, we both wanted to try their desserts.

Shae ordered their chocolate mousse torte which was nice and chocolatey without being overly rich or heavy.

I ended up ordering a dessert that wasn’t on the actual dessert menu. When we arrived, I’d seen all those desserts in the cabinet and so I ordered a fruit tart from there which hit the spot.

My dessert was great, but there was a problem – all this food meant that I was incredibly full and so was struggling to finish my boot of beer. 20 years ago I would’ve had no problem polishing off this much beer, but I sadly had to concede defeat with more beer left than I’d have liked.

Final Thoughts
Shae and I had a wonderful meal at Edelweiss Restaurant. All of our food was delicious, having a boot of beer (albeit unfinished) was fun and the service from our server Steve was excellent. The servers we’d met at the brewery a few days beforehand also made a point to stop by our table to say hi which was a nice touch. I can definitely see why Edelweiss seems to be such a popular place to eat in Colorado Springs.

[…] We were glad we followed their suggestion because it was a fantastic meal, if for no other reason than I got to have a boot of beer (which I sadly couldn’t finish). Here’s a review of our meal. […]
