After leaving our friends in Cincinnati, we made our way on to visit some other friends in Columbus while on our 50 state road trip.
On our first night in the state capital, the four of us went out for dinner at Milestone 229. This restaurant is a slightly fancier place than Shae and I usually go to eat, although it wasn’t at all snooty.
We were glad to visit, if for no other reason than it was good to eat some food that was more nutritious than the five sets of Cincinnati chili we’d consumed the previous week!
Here’s a review of our meal at Milestone 229.

Milestone 229 is on the Scioto Mile and overlooks the fountains; the outdoor seating areas presumably have a good view of those during the day. We visited in the evening though, so sat inside as it was a cold night.

The restaurant has a good selection of drinks:

I ordered a double of Knob Creek whiskey, while Shae got a 229 Cosmo.

While we started working on our drinks, we took a look at the Milestone 229 food menu.

It was tough knowing what to order as there were so many tasty-sounding options. I almost went for the Hungry Like A Wolf sandwich seeing as it came with pulled pork, sausage and bacon, but we’d eaten quite a lot of BBQ in Alabama.
I decided to go for the Faroe Island salmon instead as some fish, rice and salad sounded extremely appetizing after a couple of months of eating unhealthily.

My meal was delicious. The salmon was cooked just right, the crispy salad added some texture, the rice was great and the paprika chili butter was tasty and complemented the dish nicely.
Shae likes her cow, so she ordered the filet mignon and loved it. I got to try a little of it and it was incredible – cooked perfectly and extremely tender.

Our friends ordered the jumbo lump crab cakes…

…and the Buffalo chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries.

They both enjoyed their entrees too. I tried a little of the creamed Brussels sprouts with bacon that came with the crab cakes and it was surprisingly good. I think a large factor in that is because the bacon flavor was stronger than expected.
We’d had a fairly light lunch that day, so we both decided to get dessert.

I ordered the Carrot Cake Whoopee, while Shae went for the Big Chocolate Cake.

My carrot cake was lovely, although I was stuffed by the end of it as it was much bigger than I’d been expecting.
Shae’s chocolate cake was the same – the slice was bigger than the photo suggests. So large in fact that she only ate half of it and took the other half to go.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a nice place to have dinner in Columbus, Ohio, Milestone 229 is a great option. The service was friendly, the restaurant has a good vibe and, most importantly, the food was very good.
It’s not a cheap option, but the food is worth the price in my opinion.
