I had my first ever donut burger last year at Jack Brown’s in Norfolk VA. It was surprisingly delicious, so I was looking forward to visiting Sassy Bass Crazy Donuts in Gulf Shores AL.
We’d seen a Groupon for them and, after checking out their menu, knew it was somewhere we had to eat. They had burger donuts, sandwich donuts, pizza donuts and much more.
So after visiting Elberta to check out Bamahenge, Dinosaurs In The Woods and more, we made our way down to Sassy Bass Crazy Donuts for dinner.
Shae and I made it just in time, as they were due to close about 30 minutes after we arrived. That meant nearly all their donuts had been sold, including all their glazed donuts.
No glazed donuts would’ve been a problem as they’re used as buns for the burgers and sandwiches, as well as for pizza bases. Thankfully the lady working that night kindly offered to make some fresh donuts, so we were able to order what we’d originally wanted.
Sassy Bass Crazy Donuts has a ton of unique options:

Our Groupon was for $25 and we knew we wouldn’t have any trouble spending that. So many of the options sounded good, but I ended up going for the What Came First – fried chicken, fried egg, candied bacon and honey drizzle between two glazed donuts.
I’d love to share what it looked like, but the photo didn’t save properly on my phone 🙁 Here’s an image of what it (sort of) looked like courtesy of their website:

Mine looked similar except the bacon slices were much larger (and so there were fewer pieces). I have to say – the What Came First sandwich donut was phenomenal. We had some great food while in Alabama, but this was my favorite.
The glazed donut was great (as it had just been made fresh), the fried chicken was excellent, the fried egg was as good as a fried egg can be and the candied bacon was sweet and tasty. The end result was a flavor masterpiece.
Shae decided to go for the Flamer burger which consisted of a burger, cheese whiz and pickles between two glazed donuts.

She was a little dubious about the concoction, but one bite was all she needed to be convinced of its deliciousness.

As you might’ve guessed, you’ll get a little messy eating the Flamer burger.

The $25 Groupon goes a long way though, so that’s not all we got. Next up was the Tacky pizza donut – cheese and tomato on a glazed donut.

I don’t care for cheese, so I left this one to Shae. She thought it was OK, but not as great as her donut burger.

You can’t come to a specialty donut place and not have dessert, so we also ordered the Brain Damage dessert donut. This has bananas, strawberries, peanuts, pineapple, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, a cherry and your choice of ice cream (we went for chocolate) on top of a glazed donut.

This was good, but again – nowhere near as amazing as my What Came First donut or Shae’s Flamer donut.
Overall Thoughts
You need Sassy Bass Crazy Donuts in your life, especially their sandwich and burger donuts. Your taste buds will thank you (although your heart might not).
n.b. This isn’t a sponsored post – we paid for our donuts (albeit with a Groupon) and they didn’t know we’d be writing a review. I’m gushing about my What Came First donut simply because it was so amazing.

How To Save Money At Sassy Bass Crazy Donuts
When preparing to visit a new city on our 5 year, 50 state road trip, one of the first things I do is check out Groupon for deals on things to do or places to eat.
Leading up to our stay in Mobile, Alabama, I saw a Groupon for Sassy Bass Crazy Donuts. It cost $15.50 for $25 worth of food, which in itself is a 38% discount.
We were able to save even more though. Groupon frequently has promo codes displayed on banner ads on their site, usually offering an extra 20% off. Using one of these codes saved us an additional $3.10, taking our cost down to $12.40.
But that’s not all. I’ve stocked up on Groupon gift cards whenever possible at a 20% discount. For example, we recently bought some at Lowe’s using this Amex Offer to save $10 on each $50 Groupon gift card.
That therefore saved us another 20%, so our net cost was $9.92 for $25 of food at Sassy Bass Crazy Donuts.
Man Service was great food was awesome clean can’t wait to go back
