“If you photographed a pig snout like that cow nose, I’d buy it in an instant.”
It was this statement, plus my love of petting zoos, that led us to finding out about Rutland Farms, their marketplace and petting zoo.
It was our final day near Nashville, Georgia and we were trying to beat a storm on our trip to The Market at Rutland Farms. We got in and out just in time! Here’s what we got up to.
We met Paige in The Market and she set us up with food, instructions for the animals and a map to the petting zoo pens. We headed out towards the petting zoo and that’s when the fun really began. You turn left at the peach orchard and follow it back to the petting zoo yard.
We were welcomed by a chicken.

At first, this seemed awesome. Paige had mentioned some new chickens were on site and that they might come near. This one did come close. And closer. And even closer.
He was very interested in us and Truffles (who was welcome as long as she was kind to the animals – she did much better than at the Chevron Petting Zoo). Eventually, he began to chase us a bit. Mom was insistent that he wasn’t chasing us, but both Steve (my stepdad) and I were adamant that he had. And yes, he had. Which she learned when he chased her. But it was all good-natured and we made it out with our feet intact.
We saw bunnies, emus, two pigs, several chickens, some goats, ponies, a donkey and two cows.

As you can see above… pig snout hunt complete.
After being chased from the farmyard by biting ants and the overly friendly chicken, we made our way back inside The Market.
Paige was joined by Hannah and they asked if we’d like to go pick strawberries. Despite having lived near the Pungo Strawberry Festival my whole life, I’d never been strawberry picking. So off we went.

We only went out to pick a few berries but ended up with almost four pounds of strawberries. It was just too fun when you’d see a good one you just had to get.

Final Thoughts
We had a great time at The Market at Rutland Farms. Stephen got a few flavored honey sticks before we finally pulled out on our way to Columbus, GA.
The petting zoo only cost $8 for four people (including food), so it was great value for an hour of fun. At $1.50 per pound, the strawberries were a reasonable price too. If you find yourself near Tifton, Georgia, Rutland Farms is definitely worth a visit.
LOVE those photos – who knew a pig snout could be so cute!
Thank you! I know right!? He was a big ol’ sweetie!
