Confession time: I’m not into cars.
To be honest, I don’t even enjoy driving that much, which probably sounds weird given that we’re on a 5 year, 50 state road trip! I actually look forward to the day when we all have self-driving cars so that I don’t have to bother driving myself anymore.
When leaving La Crosse to head on to Wausau – the next stop on our road trip – Shae spotted Dahl Auto Museum as we drove past. Even though neither of us are car people, we figured it might be interesting.
We had to stop for gas, so Shae called the museum while I filled up. Seeing as we had Truffles with us, we wanted to check if they’d be OK with her coming in so long as we had her in her doggy backpack. We’d already checked out of our hotel, so there was nowhere else for her to be.
They said it’d be OK for her to come with us in her backpack, so we made our way back to the museum and I’m glad we did.

Despite not being a car person, I found the museum surprisingly interesting and enjoyable.

The Dahl family has been involved in car dealerships for more than 100 years. The museum contains dozens of classic cars in pristine condition from the past century, giving a fascinating look at how automobiles have changed over time.
In addition to all the classic cars, there’s a large hood ornament display along with loads of old gas pump signs.

Something else that was awesome about Dahl Auto Museum was that they have the Starlite Drive-In movie theater inside. They play classic movies which can be watched from the comfort of these classic cars.

Ultimately though, the main feature of Dahl Auto Museum is the cars. If you’re into the mechanical side of things, you’ll love that many of the hoods are open so you can see the engine inside.
Each automobile has a sign giving more information about it; Ken also walked around with us for some of the time and shared some additional history about the cars.
So here are all the cars you can see at the museum. I’ve put them in chronological order so you can see how they’ve evolved over the years.

As you can see, they have a great collection of cars. So if you find yourself in or near La Crosse, be sure to check out Dahl Auto Museum. Even if you’re like me and aren’t that interested in cars, you’ll still have a great time.
Our adult tickets only cost $5 each which was definitely worth it. Seniors only have to pay $4, kids aged 9-16 are $3 and kids 8 and under are free. Even better, if you’re getting your car serviced by Dahl, entrance to the museum is complimentary.
