When we hit Ohio for the road trip *officially* in 2018, we knew we’d missed a ton since we spent most of our time with friends.
There’s so much to see and do in Ohio that is unexpectedly cool. I’m glad we were able to take some time to see more of it this summer (July 2020). I also got to meet up with one of my Outschool students from a safe social distance at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.
Here’s a few pictures from our day. It’s a zoo much like any other, but it’s definitely worth a visit. It’s priced well (although more than some zoos we’ve been to), was taking good precautions for social distancing during COVID-19 and has other exhibits – the Asian Lanterns were on display when we visited.

We started at the flamingos and then explored the zoo counter-clockwise to avoid crowds. Even though we arrived at the zoo at the start of the day and things were spread out, it was busier than my visit to Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita only a month before.
As I mentioned above, I spent time with my student, Katherine, and her family. We wandered around, found some silly fun, fed the giraffes and started to get pictures of Baby Yoda for my new Instagram account @babyyodaontheroada.

We saw a few animals up and about before the heat of the day really kicked in and made everyone take a snooze.

One animal that I was able to get the closest to was a nontraditional zoo animal. This little chipmunk was having a little spilled slushie on the path and let me get a close-up.
Finally it was time to go, but we had to stop in to the gift shop. I ended up with a great shirt to commemorate the event.

It’s definitely a great way to get some exercise outside and see some animals. There’s ample shade, a nice food court with outside seating and friendly staff.
