On our second day in New Zealand, we took a trip to Hobbiton – the home of the movie set from Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit.
I wasn’t sure at first how much I’d enjoy it, but the set is seriously impressive. They’ve done a phenomenal job not only in its creation, but with its ongoing upkeep.
That means that they have a large team of workers. There are tour guides, gardeners who take care of proper fruit and vegetable gardens on the site, servers in the Green Dragon Inn, maintenance crews for the Hobbit houses, etc.
There are something like 35 Hobbit houses on the 12 acre set, with most of the houses having a theme based on the occupation of its Hobbit inhabitant. One’s home to a beekeeper, another to a carpenter, another to a cheese maker and many more.
