“What’s been your favorite part so far?”
I was visiting home recently and this was the question on everyone’s lips. I could only think of the one place that brought a huge smile to my face on the morning I woke up, while I was there and every time I’ve thought of it since.
Cabbage Patch BabyLand General Hospital in Cleveland, Georgia.
Joanna Bianca. That was my Cabbage Patch Doll when I was little. My mom worked at a toy store and I was able to get one the Christmas they were all the rage. I loved her – Joanna Bianca… and my mom too for getting her for me… but mostly Joanna Bianca.
I don’t think much about her now (Joanna Bianca, not my mom), but when it was suggested that we visit BabyLand General Hospital while we were in Georgia, I knew I had to go. I was interested and thought it was a cute idea. Until the day arrived.
When I woke up it was as if this switch had flipped and it was Christmas morning the year I got Joanna Bianca. I couldn’t wait to get there. Truffles wasn’t allowed inside so Stephen waited outside so I could go in and walk around.
This was my face.
And this.
I went back outside and let Stephen go in for a look around. While he was inside I heard over the loud speaker “Mother Cabbage Tree is dilated seven leaves, Nurse Savannah scrub in. If you’d like to watch a live birth, make your way to Mother Cabbage Tree now” Wait… what!? YOU CAN WATCH CABBAGE PATCH BABIES BE BORN!!?? (Insert face from above)
Stephen came rushing around the corner having heard the announcement. I ran inside and made it just as Mother Cabbage Tree was dilated 9 leaves! Whew! You can watch the whole birth of a brand new Cabbage Patch Kid that I got to help name with the help of a little friend. Welcome Samantha Lucy!!
I got to hold Samantha Lucy after she was examined and her paperwork was complete. Due to our extreme minimalism I wasn’t able to adopt her, but I did have a great time giving her little cuddles so she can be the future Joanna Bianca to some other lucky little person.
I did get a fun postcard and Patch Nurse hats for me and my mom – which hubs modeled for us.
I went back through before we left with my camera for a few more photographs of the experience. I hope you enjoy it almost as much as I did. I highly recommend an hour or so at BabyLand General Hospital in Cleveland, Georgia to rediscover your inner child, especially as it’s completely free to visit.
