Just in case you missed the announcement a few months ago, I’m about to head off on a mystery international adventure called 40k To Far Away.
I write part-time for Frequent Miler and it’s a challenge that came about when we had a business meeting earlier this year. Greg (the owner of Frequent Miler), Nick (his right-hand man) and I are each getting 40,000 credit card points and $400 and have to travel as far as we can around the world.
One of the fun features of the challenge is that none of us know where each other is going. We’ve kept it all a secret, so we’ll be revealing each stop as we go along. The three of us are starting in Washington D.C. on Wednesday October 2 and going our separate ways.
The other guys have much more expertise when it comes to redeeming airline miles than I do, so I’ve a feeling they’re going to be traveling farther than me. I’m still in with a chance of winning though.
The reason why is because it’s Frequent Miler readers who’ll decide who the winner is as there’s no set criteria for who’ll win. Needless to say, the distance traveled will come into it, but other factors will influence people’s votes. For example, one of us might travel the farthest distance, but do it by simply flying from airport to airport to airport and not seeing any of the countries we land in (a strategy I’d considered in the past). Someone who travels less far but gets to have a bunch of cool experiences along the way might therefore earn the readers’ votes. It’s all entirely subjective which makes it all the more fun because even if one person is the runaway winner distance-wise, they might still not win!
No Home Just Roam Posts
Seeing as I’m going to be busy with this challenge and might not have great access to internet all the time, I’ll likely be posting less frequently on here for a week or two from Wednesday. The great thing is that you’ll be hearing even more from Shae as she’ll be taking over the blog.
I’ll post some updates from my trip along the way here, on Instagram and on Facebook, but seeing as 40k To Far Away is a Frequent Miler venture, the bulk of my updates from the trip will be on that site and its Instagram and Facebook feeds.
