Ah, Facebook you star – you come through yet again for some road trip wonderfulness with the Eureka Springs Working Bunnies.
I saw a video and immediately added it to our spreadsheet where we keep a list of things to do in each state. There are bunnies in Eureka Springs, Arkansas that hand you items when you shop! It’s at East By West which is up the hill when you’re in town. They have another location too that you can stop by and see a different pair of bunnies.
The owners have been rescuing bunnies and giving them a place to live and gainful employment for 29 years. Mochi is one in a long line of bunnies that the owners have rescued – his story is that he was left in a box in a parking lot. He spends any time that he’s not working loafing and resting in the back.
You need to purchase something for the bunnies to go to work. We decided on an adorable Eureka Springs Working Bunnies tote bag. We went up to pay and that’s when Mochi gets to work.
The owner rings up your purchase and you hand them your card. Then when it’s time for you to sign it, Mochi “hands” back your card, pen and receipt. You just place your hands out and let Mochi do the heavy lifting. He even made a valiant effort at giving me my purchase.
Overall, it was a cute little shop with fun items for sale including several Eureka Springs Working Bunnies items. The whole process doesn’t take very long, but I did spend a little time with Mochi afterwards. He was so, incredibly, soft. There are no words for his softness. I always marvel at how silky and soft Truffles’ fur is… she’s practically like petting a cactus compared to Mochi.
Speaking of Truffles and other dogs – the shop is dog-friendly, but it’s on a dog-by-dog basis because the buns can be sensitive. Truffles did great until she realized there was actually a real live bunny on the counter then she barked, so Stephen immediately took her outside. Don’t be offended or surprised if your pup isn’t allowed in with the bunnies – it’s for everyone’s safety, but it never hurts to ask.
Overall, I had an excellent experience getting to meet Mochi, one of the Eureka Springs Working Bunnies and highly recommend you hop in to see him in the future! You can check them out here.
